Dan woke up to the sunlight streaming in through his window, beaming down on his face. He smiled and stretched his limbs.
He was feeling okay. He knew it was a matter of time before he'd break up with Nick and go find Phil, and perhaps, perhaps they'd be together.
Dan smiled to himself again at that thought. The thought of him and Phil together, as a couple, and not just best friends, but also lovers. He wanted that. He wanted to be happy. He wanted Phil to be happy. And he wanted Nick out of his life.
He sat up in his bed. He was going to do it today. He was going to break up with Nick. Finally. And he was going to apologize to Phil. Over and over again, until Phil accepted said apology. Then would tell Phil how much he loved him, and how long he's loved him. And how special he thought Phil was. And beautiful. And strong and smart. And then he'd kiss Phil. He'd kiss Phil again, but this time, he wouldn't have to let go as quick. And things could be okay.
Dan yawned as he got up. He put on some fresh clothes and picked up his school bag. He walked downstairs, feeling excited. He said goodbye to his mum, grabbed something quick to eat and left.

School wasn't so bad for Dan, except that Phil wasn't there. Of course. But Nick was, and Dan wasn't too thrilled about it, but he dealt with it, because it'd all be worth it in the end, he told himself, when he's holding Phil, singing 'You Are My Sunshine' to him, kissing him, and loving him without having to hide it any longer. It'd be worth it.
He had mentioned it to Nick that he'd liked to talk to him once school ended, and Nick, of course, was perplexed, but nodded anyway and said something that resembled an 'okay', because Nick hadn't the slightest clue at all of what Dan could possibly want to talk to him about after school, something apparently so important, yet couldn't have been done at the moment.
Nick didn't have the slightest clue whatsoever.
And perhaps Dan knew that he should've done it during school, where he'd have less of a chance of getting beaten within an inch of his life, because Dan knew Nick had friends that weren't like Dan, and he knew Nick had two older brothers that looked out for him, and perhaps Dan was a bit scared.
But he'd do it all for Phil any day.
