His heart sank and he froze when the lips touched his. They were soft, different, enchanting. But it was still the same way his deceased beloved had kissed him. And their first kiss had been her last. When Dia pulled away, she looked straight into his eyes, exactly how Kylie had done so. He feared the worst, the light from her bright blue eyes fading out and turning dull. He hadn't realised that he had been holding his breath.
"Babe?" Dia raised an eyebrow at him, snapping him back to attention. She was still alive.
"Oh... Um... Hey." He muttered softly, pushing her away and sitting back at the table. She'd collapse any minute now.
Why isn't the kiss working?
He looked over at her to see her leaning on the table with one hand, still confused. She raised a hand to her hair and ruffled it before turning to Jenna.
"Hi. What are you doing here?" She began with a smile. Jenna snapped out of her shock and cleared her throat.
"I uh... Came for Greek." Jenna glanced at Aidon nervously as she spoke to Dia. "I-I'm sorry, are you two together?!" She raised an eyebrow at them in confusion as she frowned.
"Two years." Dia beamed. By Gods she's a good actress...
"Funny... He's never mentioned you before..."
"Of course he has. You probably just forgot." He realised that she had begun her charmspeak. Jenna's tone turned flat.
"Oh... Right... I forgot..." She said blankly.
"You know what you should do?" Dia gave the girl a fake smile. "There's this amazingly cute girl in the cheer squad who goes by the name of Kaila. Kaila Coleman. She seems like your type, maybe you should make a move on her?"
"Oh... Oh yes wow... She is cute..." Jenna frowned. Why hadn't she ever noticed that before? In fact... Why hadn't she ever noticed how attractive girls were?
Aidon watched as Dia worked. The kiss still didn't seem to be working but her abilities were frightening. Here she just turned the school's straight cheer captain QueenBee into a lesbian. Or bisexual whichever Dia preferred. What was even more humourous, was that it was on the wannabe-daughter of Aphrodite on the cheer squad. When Jenna had hurriedly scuttled out of the mansion after grabbing her belongings, Aidon turned to Dia.
"You; work wonders." He began.
"I try." She shrugged. She felt content with herself. A great deed had been done. Maybe she should have convinced Jenna of quitting the team too but that would have been one step too far and a bit unnecessary on her part. Aidon studied her. Her obnoxiousness had certainly buried itself for the time being. What actually worried him was his kiss. The kiss of Death. Why was it taking so long with her. And why hadn't he seen how she would die? Or when, before she kissed him.
When he was with Kylie, he only saw how she would die in that small second before their lips connected. His mother told him that it was because he was untrained and that it was a skill he had to learn. He wished he had. He had only seen the look on her face as she died before. Not how or when. It had puzzled him so much to wonder why she could have looked so happy. Who died a happy death?
She did.
He stood up and eyed her cautiously. He suddenly remembered what Phaeton had told him.
"The heirs' powers don't work on each other unless they're weakened. They can only be weakened by an Olympic God."
Ah...
Just as how Dia's charmspeak did not work on him, his kiss of Death would not work on her either.
Now that made sense.
"Aphrodia?" He questioned, leaning against the table with his back, crossing his arms together.
"Hm?" She turned to him as she stood at the window, her hair tossing neatly to the other side and she looked at him, eyes wide in curiosity. The fact that her obnoxiousness was still under wraps was pleasing him. Plus... She was amazingly gorgeous...
And she was immune to his kiss.
"Why'd you kiss me?" He asked. She smiled smugly.
"For effect of course. It's necessary for an actress to produce convincing acts to fool the audience into believing that the situation is real." She explained, a hint of her narcissistic snob side hidden in her voice. He decided to ignore it. If she was trying to change, he would let her do so at her own pace. Besides, no one changed over night.
Except... Maybe him but that surely didn't count... "Where'd you even learn all this?" He gave her a frown. How old was she even-15? He walked over to her and stood a fine head over her.
"Drama Camp. I was 10. Got the medal for being the best." She was bragging now. "Well of course, that is the least you could expect from-" he shut the snobby little mouth of hers by kissing her this time. He did not know why he did it. He just did. Maybe it was the fact that he could kiss someone without killing them... Or simply just to shut her up.
Or... Maybe he liked her.
He pushed her away immediately, eyes wide in shock. She frowned at him, annoyed.
"Who interrupts a kiss?!" She complained. He cursed himself for doing so as he should have obviously gone on and kept her mouth shut. That would have really helped. He looked out the window while flexing his jaw and noticed how the primroses out in the garden had opened.
She...
As expected, out of the hedge maze appeared a beautiful pale skinned woman dressed in a purple ancient floral art gown. Her straight usually golden hair was a dark tinted brown that still shimmered in the light and she closely resembled Aidon. Dia stared in confusion as Aidon eagerly pushed the furthest window, which was actually a glass door on the side of the library open to let the young beautiful woman in. The first thing he did, was pull her into a warm hug.
"Well hello." The woman smiled. Dia eyed the woman cautiously. Who is she and why was Aidon so happy to see her. This was bad. Very bad... Was this...
Was this Kylie?
"Aphrodia, this..." Aidon beamed proudly, a stance she had never seen in him before. "This is my mother, Persephone."
