I'm so glad that I was able to salvage some more things from the house before it was knocked down to be rebuild again. Some of my jewelry and shoes were found only slightly scorched in the ruins of our house. The hospital life is so dull. We eat the tasteless food for breakfast and dinner everyday. We even have to buy cafeteria lunches at school. I missed Erica's delicious cooking with a burning passion. I haven't spoken to Erica in a few days. That sounds weird, I know. But the doctors have her sleep aid medicine because she became unable to sleep and chugs down pill after pill, which is pretty unhealthy. They have suggested to her many times about shutting off the machines that keep Rodger alive. She always resigns and shops them away. I don't know if I can live like this any longer...
___________________________"Oh and be sure to get your dance tickets by tomorrow if you plan on going to the Winter Formal! Have a great day Hollow Springs High!" Felicity King the school announcement commentator said cheerily as the daily announcements ended.
I groaned. The whole student body was buzzing about the Winter Formal and Iris still hadn't convinced me to go yet.
"Ok let's take attendance!" Mr. Redson said to us and began to take roll. Right as he called Iris Biano, Iris burst into the room and exclaimed,
"HOLA!" Which cracked us all up.
"I see you've been studying your Spanish. But please answer in English next time Ms. Biano." Mr. Redson said pointing to her seat.
She slunk in next to me and whipped out her algebra homework which was empty.
"Help a friend out?" She asked shoving me her paper and throwing a pencil on top of it.
Normally I would never ever do someone's homework under any circumstances, but I was not in the mood to argue. Luckily algebra happens to be my best subject so I was finished within 5 minuets.
"Wow. You're good at this stuff." She said in awe.
I nodded and grabbed my backpack as soon as the bell rang. Since I still had Mr. Redson I just moved to the desk I usually sat at.
"Sooo. Got any plans for Friday?" She asked.
I already knew where this was heading...
"Nope, but I still don't want to go." I said stubbornly.
"Well that's too bad because I may or may not have herd that a certain somebody bought you a ticket...." Iris cooed.
Before I had time to react, a boy in my class named Damion walked over and slipped one of those bracelets with the snowflakes on them onto my wrist.
"You? Me? Dance, on Friday?" He asked confidently.
The word no was on the tip of my lips but Iris butted in and said.
"She'd love to." And sent him off.
"Are you crazy?" I asked her.
"Nope. Plus he's the all star receiver for the football team. I just did you a favor." Iris said waving me off.
Great. Just what I needed, a dimwitted date to the dance that only cared about how bug his muscles were. Plus, I had no interest in athletes. And I was sorta hoping that maybe, just maybe Wes would somehow ask me. I would have to dump Damion at lunch...
I angrily ignored Iris for the rest of the class and practically ran faster than a cheetah to get away from her when the bell rang. I zipped down the hallway towards my science class and I smacked into someone. It was Wes, again. What was up with me running into him all the time?
"Ohmygosh. I'm so sorry." I said collecting myself.
"Eh, it's no problem." He said shyly.
We walked in silence to our class. We were half way there when Wes noticed my bracelet. Dang it! I'd forgotten to take it off.
"So, looks like you go a date to the dance." He said with his voice dripping with hurt.
"Um, yea. Well, uh, Damion kinda well..." I stuttered.
"You know what? Forget it. If you're into dumb sports guys I'll stop trying so hard for you to like me." He growled.
"Wes! You can't say that! You weren't there when this happened, Iris told him I'd go with him before I could say no!" I cried. I felt my eyes getting misty.
"Oh, so now you're blaming my sister? How shallow are you?" He said with anger.
Before I could protest he stormed off without me.
There goes my chance of getting a happy ending...

I ran to the hospital through all the snow and bitter cold weather. As I approached the building I saw Emma, Owen, and Emily playing in the huge snowdrift by the main entrance.
"Silvia!" Emma cried running up to me.
"Come join us!" She laughed playfully throwing a handful of snow at me.
"Oh alright." I said letting up a little. I was in a fowl mood all day due to my encounter with Wes.
I began to roll some snow into a small ball and added onto it until it was a nice size. Within a few minuets I had built a snowman. I took my scarf off and wrapped it around it's neck. Emily came up and handed me a handful of fallen pine needles.
"Give her hair." She instructed.
I smiled and pressed the pine needles to the head of the snowman.
"We made a snow-WOMAN." I said to her and she laughed.
"You're good at this." Emily said.
Every winter me and Mom used to make snowmen in Central Park. It was a good tradition. My heart began to ache for her.
"Uh, yea." I coughed trying to hold back tears.
I closed my eyes and felt a little body wrap it's arms around me. I opened my eyes to see that Emily was giving me a hug.
"It's ok." She said. I smiled.
"Thank you Emily." I said.
And her little gesture brought a whole load of joy back into me. Somehow, I knew everything would be the way it was so long ago.
