The next morning I woke up around noon. Well, I guess I had woken up earlier but was too sad to actually get out of bed. My phone buzzed heartily, and I lazily flopped over to get it off my nightstand. It was a message from Emma.
Miss my big sis! Hope NYC is nice. :)
I typed back,
It is, but not as nice as Hollow Springs! Miss u! <3
I was happy to keep the mood light, but I wanted to come out and tell her how horrible I felt more than anything.
Siging, I closed my phone and tried to go back to sleep, but it seemed as though the sun trickling through my window was too bright. So I got up to shut the curtains. I snuggled back down and noticed how scratchy my sheets felt. Finally I gave up and walked to the kitchen grumbling the whole way.
Dad sat at the kitchen table on his laptop. I saw that my old school's website was displayed on his screen.
"I'm re-enrolling you at Birchwood Hills." Dad said while I rolled my eyes.
"Can't I go to another school? I'm not too found of Birchwood." I said grumpily.
"Please, Silvia. You've been there before, don't you think a new school would be a little too much on your plate at the moment?" Dad asked.
I didn't answer.
"Don't you have friends here?" He asked.
I shook my head. I had always been the classic introverted nerdy girl that everyone overlooked. Plus I didn't have time for friends. Back then my main focus was making honor roll, or even principal's list which was getting difficult.
Dad typed in what I assumed was my personal information to be re-enrolled. I scoured the pantry looking for something to eat, finding that everything was cleared out. Even in the fridge. Then I remembered something Dad told me on the drive back to the apartment.
Apparently it seemed as if we had just suddenly evacuated our home and stopped paying our bills, so some of the apartment people sent out some other important people to clean the place up and get our apartment on the market. I guess when Dad came home he stopped the whole thing and did some searching around to find me.
"We have no food!" I say angrily.
"I really wanted Fruity Pebbles." I grouched.
"Boo hoo. We can go over to the grocery store in a little while. I have plans for today though." Dad said clicking his mouse a final time and submitting my application form.
"What plans?" I asked suspiciously.
"Fun things to help us... Get our mind off of this, unfortunate situation...." He said.
"Should I take a shower?" I ask.
"Definitely."
...........................................
I sit in the passenger seat of Dad's replacement car we have until his actual car arrives from Hollow Springs. It was a roomy minivan that was unnecessary for us, but it brought comfort because it reminded me of Erica's car.
"Where are we going?" I ask as we make a left onto the main road.
"First stop, hot chocolate." He says with a smile.
"I like your thinking." I say as my phone rings.
"Hold on...." I mutter when I read the contact name.
Erica.
"Hello?" I ask.
"Silvey! I have great news!" Erica squeals.
