Chapter 25

2:07 and there's a knock on the front door. We are just about to leave and Dad opens the door smiling.

"Chelsea!" He exclaims.

"Chelsea!" I echo. She grins at us both. "We were just gonna leave to go to the airport, wanna come with?" Dad asks, swinging his keys around his fingers. "Sure! Let's go," she smiles, taking his hand and squeezing it. Awww.

Getting to the airport I see heaps of people, but no Luke. Or Jai or Skip or James. Or Beau or Gina or Lydia. How the hell am I supposed to find them? Suddenly I feel a vibration in my pocket. Oh. I have a phone. That's right, a device on which I can call or text anyone anywhere. What is wrong with me? So I take it out, checking the message.

From Luke:

On way. Lyds is with us but James might be there a bit earlier than us, see you soon x

So I text James.

To James:

Hey, you here yet? So pumped! (:

From James:

SAME

yeah im here, near Maccas come see me I've got someone you may want to meet ;)

To James:

Ooh I'm intrigued. Hang on let me find Maccas. Be there in 5

I gather up Chelsea and Dad and we wander around, looking for Mcdonalds. I'm standing, looking around for the food court when a totally gorgeous girl with black hair and big glasses approaches me. "Jess? Jess Reid?" I look at her. "Oh my god!" I exclaim. "Hi." she waves shyly. "I've heard a bit about you. I was wondering when we were going to meet, but apparently.." she looks around. "My airhead boyfriend got lost."

"I know where he is! Never fear, my friend." So we head off to Maccas. When we get there Dad and Chels get a coffee and sit down whilst we spot James, sitting at a table.

"Jess!" He exclaims, motioning for me to sit down. "Ver." He says, softer, and stands to embrace her, murmuring into her ear. They break away.

"Jess this is my girlfriend, Veron -"

"I know who she is," I grin. "Veronica Bravo, right? I'm a fan." I smile widely at her. "You have a beautiful voice."

she looks flattered. "Oh, thank you!" James smiles adoringly at her. Aww, lovebirds. I want mine!

As if on cue, Luke strolls towards me from behind the happy couple, with one hand in his pocket, using the other to hit James on the back of the head, and turning around to walk backwards, waving at Veronica. He turns back around, lifting my hand and kissing it, making me blush, and then moves away to greet Dad and Chelsea. Charming, sexy little shit. Daniel, Beau, Jai, Lydia, Cece and Gina appear. Gina gather us around, hushes us, and goes into scary Gina mode.

"Alright," she says. "I'm gonna need you all to listen to me these next few weeks, alright? No funny business with me," she says, narrowing her eyes at Beau. "Because I am the responsible adult and you are the irresponsible children. In case that needs clearing up; if any of you die, I am responsible. So if you die, I will kill you. Okay I'm done, go." She waves us off and we all start chattering about how much fun this will be. This is when I notice Veronica standing in James' arms, staring blankly into the distance and frowning slightly. I go over to her and pull her away. "Hey, hey, what's up?" I ask gently, holding her arms. She looks at me. "I'm not going to see him for 6 weeks, Jess, and.. Listening to you all talk about it, I.." She trails off. I frown. "Didn't he invite you?" I ask.

"Well, yeah. But my producer needs me to stay here until I'm done recording. And I mean, this is a big opportunity. I just.. Will miss him like crazy, you know?" She says, biting her lip to keep the tears in.
