YOU wanna know what sucks about being in Theater I?
Everything.
The most irritating thing about it is that it consists of only freshman and a few sophomores. I'm unfortunately the only junior in the class. With me being the oldest in the class, Mr. Jackson trusted me enough to have a lead role.
I'm not looking forward to being dressed as an alien, reciting lines in front of over a hundred people.
After school, all the theater kids in the play gathered in the auditorium to have dress rehearsal before the big show tonight. Practice has been all week long after school, and to say I was bored and tired was an understatement. I can recite my lines in my sleep by now.
I know my parents are coming with already buying tickets and them not wanting to miss out on me engaging in an out of school activity. And even though I begged Austin not to come to the play, he bought a ticket anyway and assured me he wouldn't miss it.
The theater has a wide stage with wooden floor boards and velvet curtains that close and open when they need to. Beyond the stage is the chairs for the audience that are black, wide and very comfortable with me knowing that because we had to sit down many times while Mr. Jackson would critique us on what we needed to do.
He tells us to gather on stage. We practiced the play twice before going back stage to get on our costumes. Mine is a purple dress with green lines going across my legs with a robe draped over my shoulders. A girl named in my class named Cynthia gives me my alien makeup.
"You have such good skin!" she compliments.
"Thanks."
Thankfully, it is only Mr. Jackson's Theater I class putting on a show tonight. If it were all his classes, it would be hell.
I peak behind the curtain to see the crowd gathering. They are coming in quick. Time has passed by so quickly. I want to get this over with. Looking in the mirror for any final touches, my eyes are covered in green eye shadow with winged eyeliner that comes out in two lines. Cynthia put fake eyelashes on me and applied a lip liner to make my lips a violet purple. I have to say, I'm not a bad looking alien. Cynthia then tops it off with antennas connected to a head piece that goes with my dirty blonde hair.
My cheekbones have been highlighted to give the appearance of them being deepened. I have also fake tattoos of odd shapes going on the parts of my skin that are visible.
I hear Mr. Jackson's voice in the microphone talking to the audience. Cynthia finishes putting my hair up in a neatly braided style with the rest of my hair down. The audience claps and I know it's show time. The front curtains close and Mr. Jackson ushers us on stage.
My nerves kick in.
What if I mess up? What if I fall? All of these people will be looking at me! Chill, you won't be the only one they're looking at.
I am lead by more backstage robots to my fake spaceship. They did a fantastic job of making it realistic with the lights and windows. I hitch up my dress, stepping into the very back. This guy named Joseph is in the front. He's the pilot and two other kids in my class are my personal workers you could say.
