Chapter Five: Building a burning bridge.
"Rose, pass me the potatoes," James ordered.
"James! Say please," Aunt Ginny berated my cousin.
Uncle Harry rolled his eyes. "There's no use in trying to educate our son," he said.
James stuck out his tongue. "Hey, Dominique, be a nice Quidditch captain and pass the spuds?"
Dominique (another cousin. Just assume that all unfamiliar names are cousins)chucked a roast potato at James, who expertly plucked it out of the air. "There's my seeker," Dominique approved.
"Dom! Do not throw le potatoes," Aunt Fluer scolded. Dominique grinned. "Sorry, Maman."
"Hey, Rose," Teddy called from one side of the table (He's Uncle Harry's Godson and he's basically one of the family). "Is it true that you hurled on that Malfoy kids shoes?"
Victoire slapped him on the arm. "Teddy!"
"What?" the blue haired boy asked. "I asked a simple question. Did you, Rose?"
My face burnt up. "Yup," Al answered. "And, apparently, they were expensive."
My father laughed. "That's my girl, Rosie."
"Ron!" Mum exclaimed, but she had a small smile on her face.
It was Christmas Day in the Burrow and all the Weasley Clan had come for Nana Molly's delicious food. My Uncle Percy was engaged in a conversation with Uncle George's wife, Aunt Angelina, who was trying not to laugh as her husband pulled funny faces behind Percy's back. Dominique, Fred and James were chatting animatedly about Quidditch and pranks (Fred and James took it upon themselves to try and follow in their namesakes footsteps.)
Roxanne and Lucy were talking about some "fit lads" in their Herbology class. My Uncle Charlie was telling Molly and Louis about some new dragon species. My Auntie Ginny and Uncle Bill were engaged in a heated conversation about Cursebreaking, with Uncle Harry occasionally butting in. Mum and Aunt Audrey were talking about some new "Equal Rights Rule" that was soon to enforced. and Dad was playing "who can eat the most food in the Weasley household" with my little brother, Al and Teddy. Lily and Victoire were talking about some muggle band, Five Seconds of Summer, that Teddy had taken Victoire to see in Australia a couple of days back. I sat with Nana Molly and Grandad Arthur.
"So, Rosie," Nana Molly said," How do you like Hogwarts? Is everyone nice?"
Not everyone, I wanted to say. "Yeah, it's great. I really like Potions. Professor Basset is my favorite teacher."
Grandad Arthur nodded. "Yes, I've worked with Professor Brown. Her "Anti- Shrinking" potion seriously helped our department with the shrinking keys."
I sat back in my seat, and watched my family as they ate and talked. We were all wearing Weasley jumpers from Nana Molly. My Dad's was maroon (as usual. Nana Molly once told me it was a running joke.) My was dark blue, with a yellow "R" on it. It was slightly too big, but it was comfortable and probably my favourite jumper yet.
Suddenly, Nana's owl, Errol the Second burst through the window and landed in the mash potatoes.
Al picked up the package. "Its for you, Rosie!" he said.
He handed me the package. I ripped it open and in it was a pair of socks that had a picture of a snake on them.
"Crappy Christmas," the little note attached to them read. "P. S, I had to get new shoes for Christmas."
Scorpius POV
When we got back to school after Christmas, the stink bombs stopped. Weasley seemed a lot happier in herself.
