Chapter Twelve

I woke up to find I was on a soft makeshift bed. Y'know, it's a mattress but portable? It folds up in the middle? I wondered if Harry was beside me, like any other morning, when I remembered what had happened. My speech, the declaration of war, the chaos, Harry getting shot, my father dying.

My head thumped hard. I knew I had a headache from being knocked out while I was hysterically crying. My eyes were sore but as soon as the image of my father's dead body resurfaced, new tears welled up. I opened my eyes to see I was in a tent. My clothes were sticking to my sweating body. I leaned up uncomfortably, letting out a small groan.

"C'mon kid, you need to lay down," Darwin's voice came from behind me, his hands on my shoulders, pushing me down. I resisted at first but gave in when he continued to push me down.

I stared accusingly up at him, "Don't give me that look," he grumbled. My dad was dead because of Darwin and his dumb plans and his dumb friends. I didn't let up my glare. I couldn't talk. I knew that if I started talking I'd start yelling and I didn't want to yell. Something didn't feel right. I didn't feel right.

"Bay, please, it wasn't planned."

I turned over in the bed and covered my head in the thin blanket. I heard Darwin sigh and the bed gave in under his weight. He put a hand on my shoulder and shook me. I surprised myself by shoving him off the bed. He huffed and growled, "Stop acting like a child!"

I threw the blanket off my body, "You are insinuating that I'm the one acting like a child? My Dad just died what, last night? That wasn't the plan Darwin! No one was supposed to get murdered. He didn't even antagonize the Rogue! He was looking at me when it happened! The damn Rogue just murdered him out of cold blood! I need time to mourn! Is that too much to fucking ask for?"

"Your father passed away nine days ago. You've been in a coma like state since the war proclamation." Darwin announced. I brought in a steady breath and stared at the flap that was half open. It was light outside.

"Where are we?"

"We set up camp last night, last time I heard we were in Illinois."

"Illinois?!"

"Yeah, we've had to move basically every night because Alpha Martin is after us." He cleared his throat, uncomfortable.

"Who? Alpha-" The words got choked up in my throat as I realized who was following us.

Harry.

He was tracking us. Trying to find me, I presume. To punish me? To kill me? My heart began to race as I thought of the possibilities.

"We need to break the bond. We've been wanting to for the past nine days but we couldn't because you weren't awake." Darwin, once again, looked uncomfortable.

"How would we break it?"

Darwin's cheeks turned pink, "Another male wolf has to claim and mark you." I narrowed my eyes and pulled my legs up to my chest. I felt too exposed.

"Who would this male wolf be?"

"Well, we've talked it over-"

"Who is "we"?"

"My friends,"

"Your Rogues and you have been talking about who gets to sleep with me?" I rolled my eyes and got out of the bed. Of course they'd be talking about that. They were guys. I didn't appreciate that Darwin was partaking though. I was surprised when I saw I was wearing a flimsy dress. One I would never dream of wearing. It wasn't flattering at all and it showed off too much skin for my liking. I turned my back to Darwin and began shuffling through the tent, trying to find something else to wear. I grabbed a green duffel filled with a bunch of men's clothing. I pulled on a V-neck and some black sweats.
