Valarie spent the entire sunday in search of Ian, clueless where to go, she started by looking around the park, hoping that he lived in the neighborhood. She went around asking people about him but didnt find anyone familiar with him. At this rate she would never find him as the city is too big to find some stranger she only met once but she felt guilty. She wanted to return the locket to him, it looked so expensive and she couldnt stand being called a thief. As much as she loved the jewel, she knew she couldnt keep it.
Last night after she changed into her pajamas and got ready to sleep, she couldnt help but turn and look once more at the beautiful peice of jewelry. when she turned the lights off, the gem seemed to glow a little and she couldnt resist picking it up from her dressing table. Usually she would avoid touching something without reason if it didnt belong to her but the stone was so pretty...she held it in her hand and stared at it while in bed. she noticed how the perfect, bright shade of red sparkled from some angles, it instantly reminded her of the red glow she saw a night ago. They seemed so much like a pair of eyes...except the idea of red eyes didnt seem scary to her anymore. She had fallen in love with the color red and enjoyed imagining someone with eyes as red as the gem on the locket. She slept with the pendulum locket in her hand that night.
Now she knew it was wrong to keep what was not hers and she didnt stop searching for the owner. She spent the entire day hopelessly looking around and by evening she was forced to lose hope. she was tiered...'but its okay,' she thought, 'i'll try again tomorow' she pushed the locket deep into her pocket and decided to go eat something. she pulled out her phone and turned it on, the many unread messages suddenly reminded her of Isaac, she frowned and put the phone back in her pocket. she didnt care what he had to say to defend himself, it didnt make a difference to her.
She looked around in search of something else to think about and thats when she saw...him; jet-black hair, fair skin, a tall and healthy teen waiting for something at the side walk. her heart pounce with excitement as she ran towards him and yelled, "IAN!" hHe turned his good-looking face towards her and she stopped in front of him. she was short of breath but didnt stop talking, "Ian, I'm so glad i found you, I was looking everywhere for you..." then she pulled out the locket "Here, you left this with me yesterday..."
"Wow, I didnt think you'd return it."
"I had no intention to keep it, i spent the entire day looking for you." this sounded a bit wrong and made Ian smirk. It was a perfect smirk, suited his handsome face so well.
"Thanks but I think you should keep it."
"Pardon? why should I, its urs..."
"I know but a normal person wouldnt have tried to return it, so i guess you deserve it plus i know you like this stupid antique."
"but its yours..."
"I really dont like it, its more of a girls thing...here" he said putting the locket around her neck making her freeze, she felt warm and was probably blushing. "See it looks great on you"
"umm...Thanks, are you always like this or am i someone special?"
"I am like this only when i have to be." Valarie understood it as the second option. "By the way, dont go showing it off, its best if you keep it to yourself or else people would try to steal it."
"But i dont think...i really shouldnt keep it."
"I dont like to argue, i'm going for a snack, if you like you could join me."
"i was going to eat too."
"Then come along" and she did...she followed him to a neat restaurant that seemed expensive. she had seen it but had never been there before. she heard that they gave all sorts of food, each of them were perfectly delicious but expensive. they took a table and was welcomed by a waiter.
"he seems to know you well, do you come here often?"
"Yeah i guess,"
"then you must be rich"
"A little maybe" he smiled, it seemed like he was resisting to show off.
And so the evening turned to night as they ate and talked, eventually they started to feel like good friends but by the time she came back home...all of this reminded her of Isaac. she would be seeing him school tomorow, what should she do?
what should she do? let go of the old friend and make a new one? avoid making more friends? or keep them both?
