Luna woke up and rubbed her eyes. She turned to see Louis slouching in a chair next to her and Jay sleeping on the couch. Most likely, Louis told Jay to sleep on the couch instead of himself, since lately, he's been a gentlemen.
Luna understands what's going on with her; the cancer is getting worse and the medicine they give her isn't working properly. She knows she'll be alright for a few more days, but eventually, she'll be living in yet another hospital.
Louis groaned, causing Luna to stop thinking and turn her attention to him.
"Morning," Luna cooed, smiling at Louis. Louis sent her a small smile and yawned. "You sleep ok?"
"Yeah, but my neck is sore," Louis mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. "How are you feeling?"
"Good." Luna smiled largely at Louis, hoping to make it feel better about leaving her today.
Louis sat straight up and yawned again. "Jay's a good friend," he said to Luna, thinking about the conversation those two had last night.
"I know she is."
"I wish I could be as great of a friend," Louis jokingly said with an added chuckle at the end.
Luna sighed. "You are, Lou."
After everything he's done for her, said to her, how he's treated her lately, he is a great friend. He gives her unbelievable hope everyday, and today, with him just sitting there with her, she feels the hope building up again.
"Really?" Louis cocked his head. "I've never been called a good friend before."
"Well, you are." Luna reached her hand out. Louis took it immediately and she squeezed. "You've helped me a lot, Louis."
"I just want you to be healthy," he quietly stated.
"A good friend would want that!" Luna said cheerily. Louis laughed and nodded his head.
It's not like Louis loves Luna, maybe just a small crush. He just wants his friend to be happy and healthy, but something in the back of Louis' mind is yelling so loud, yelling things Louis wouldn't think about. Things like how Louis wants to lay down next to Luna and talk to her, how he wants to hold her hand every day, how he would sit there and watch her paint for hours if he could.
He isn't patient with anyone else he knows. He's a very impatient person. Like the saying says, "Love is patient, love is kind." Whether it meant that love holds those characteristics or you need to have kindness and patience, it's both correct. And for Luna, Louis is both of those things.
Maybe he's slowly falling, but isn't hard to tell? When you're falling for someone?
Louis has seen Luna's best and worst, and he still wants to stick by her, everyday. He sees this utter beauty he didn't know ever existed. The scars on his own wrists, those bad thoughts, don't exist when he's around her anymore. It's like she's his cure.
"Do you think they'll let me go for a walk?" Luna asked Louis as Jay snored in her sleep.
Lou shrugged. "Maybe."
"I just want to go outside. This room is killing me!" Luna chuckled, but Louis' mind focused on the word 'killing'. He hated that word coming out of Luna's mouth. He just awkwardly nodded and got up. "Are you gonna go ask for me?"
Louis nodded and went towards the door. "You're a doll, Lou!" Luna called out behind him.
Jay rolled over on the couch and turned to Luna. "You're incredible with recovery," she mumbled. "And loud."
