" Come on Cloudpaw! Time for some training in the sandy hollow!" Cloudpaw heard Ivypool mew excitedly as her blue eyes flitted open. The tortie she-cat was waiting outside, her ears perked and eyes glistening.

" Wake up Frostpaw, we're training with CLoudpaw and Ivypool today!" Dovewing mused.

" Okay, i'm coming Ivypool!" Willowpaw called out as she stretched her limbs and yawned,

" Bye guys, see you later!" Kestrelpaw meowed as he waved the other apprentices off as they left for the sandy hollow.

" Okay stretch out your claws as far as you can! Then swipe at your opponent." Ivypool instructed as CLoudpaw slashed at the bark of a nearby tree, leaving long scores in the gray wood.

" Alright, Cloudpaw, now try avoiding my attack." Her mentor sheathed her claws and leapt at the young blue gray apprentice, paws outstretched. Cloudpaw feigned to the left and slid under Ivypool's belly, then flipped about and hopped on top of her, keeping out of the range of her flailing paws.

" Good job Cloudpaw," Ivypool purred " now it is time to test you skills in a battle with your sister."

Frostpaws, snow-white paws scratched the earth as she prepared for battle, her sister crouched across the clearing and flicked her tail wildly in the air.

" 3, 2, 1, Go!" Dovewing yelped, and the two apprentices hopped into battle, Frostpaw instantly went into attack mode, the lithe she-cat zipped side to side towards her sister, trying to confuse her and fluffing out  her fur so she was twice her size. Cloudpaw crouched back and aimed at a tree right behind the silver tabby, she pounced and gripped it with her claws. Frostpaw was thrown off by this but recovered her composure quickly, hissing and scrabbling at the bark with sheathed claws.

" Wait stop!" Dovewing suddenly yelped, "I hear something. "

She was right Cloudpaw realized, a massive creature was crashing through the bracken and growling.

" Dog!"  Ivypool howled as she gripped her apprentice's scruff and bolted for the nearest tree. Frostpaw and Dovewing were already up, fear crackling in their fur. As Ivypool placed the apprentice down on a sturdy branch, she stared at the dog. It's fur was deep brown, almost black. And it's eyes glittered with an untamed light as it gazed apon the cats hungrily.

" A wolf..." Ivypool whispered. Cloudpaw remembered the terrifing tales that the elders tld them when they were still kits about horrifing creatures with slavering jaws and wild eyes.

The wolf grunted and ran off, knowing that it couldn't catch the cats up there.

" Come on, we have to tell the clan." Dovewing murmered, astounded.
