Yuki led us to the tower. The inside is so huge it doesn't look like it in the outside. Then again, this is a weird magical world so why not?
There are rooms with numbers on it and Yuki led me to the 12th one.
'What is this, a hotel?' I mumbled
'Well technically this place is only called tower by name.' Yuki winked. 'So this is where you'll be staying tonight.'
There is something I want to ask Yuki before she left, but I figured it'll be rude and pointless so I forgot the thought. At least that was the plan. Until she turned around and said
'Of course I'm not, what did you think I was?'
'Huh?'
'Um, excuse me. I have the ability to hear people's minds. My ears are quite strong you see. And just now you said something like how someone a part of a wolf family can have a human body like me. Well, it's simple. It's because I'm not a wolf. I'm a fox!'
I'm pretty much dumbfounded right now. Not that just she could read [or hear] my mind, she explained it all out in one go without hesitation.
'Um.. a fox?'
'Yes~ The Shirakami family is a Bakegitsune* family, we have the ability to shape-shift and have very strong senses.'
'Uh.. ok then.'
'Eri-chan, can I talk to you about something?' Yuki said while closing the door.
'Umm, sure. What's wrong?'
'So, how do I start this... Did you know? The Shirakami family is very close to the human species. You can say that we're one of the closest ones out there. And because of that most creatures out there despises us for that. The fact that we have outstanding powers actually made it worse. Um, how do I say this? To keep balance between families and clans, the Shirakami family and the Kurokami family merged into one clan called the Inugami clan. My birth name is not Shirakami Yukibana. My real name is Ayame. Yuki is the name I inherit from my mother. Yuki is the name for the one who protect this forest, its means snow. We must be like the snow, gentle but fierce and when the time comes, we disappear from people's sight again. But don't tell anyone okay? You're the first one I'm telling this to.'
'Wait. Why are you telling me all this?'
'Why? Well, it's because I can trust you. That's why.'
'How can you trust someone you just met a few hours ago?' literally, how in the world can you trust someone you barely know? I mean, this secret isn't something you let out to someone randomly is it not?
'Umm... well not to be rude, but I've been listening to your thought patterns since the very beginning. And I feel like I can trust you. And well, now that I actually tell someone about my secret, I feel a lot better now! I mean, not even Tetsu-nii knows about this.'
'W-w-wait a minute! How- I-!! This isn't something I'm supposed to know!?-' Why would she tell me, a complete stranger, a secret that not even her family knows?
And suddenly in the midst of confusion a scream is heard. A very dreadful one.
