Chapter 5

When I woke up, Mark was still gone.
Now it's time to panic.
"MARK?!" I screamed.
No answer.
Fuck!
I raced to his draws.
They were all full.
I went into the bathroom.
No sign of him.
I checked his closet.
Everything was still there, except there was something that caught my eye.
It was green and crystal like.
I picked it up and examined it.
I then I realized what it was.
Kryptonite.
But it was too late.
I was getting so weak. I felt my legs buckle beneath me.
"HELP!" I cried.
I kept yelling, for I couldn't get up, I could barely move.
Then someone came through the door.
Allison.
She took the kryptonite and tossed it out in the trash and helped me up. She took me to the nurse.

"You're going to be alright. As long as it doesn't get injected into your skin, you'll be okay." The nurse said.
I nodded.
"Lay down on the cot for a while so I can make sure you're alright." She said.
"Okay." I said.
Then the nurse was called to the office.
"Thanks for helping me, Ally." I said.
"No problem." She said.
"Im sorry for getting up in your face the other day. I was just really upset and I was mad that you left." I said.
"It's okay. I'm sorry that I left you. I just felt bad for him. We're not even friends anymore." She said.
"Well, I hope you find someone." I said.
"Really?!" She asked.
"You bet." I said.
Her face lit up.
See how the little acts of kindness can make someone's day?
Then I remembered about Mark.
"We have to go!" I exclaimed and took hold of her as I sped off.
"What are we doing and where are we going?" She asked.
"I have to find my brother." I said.
I told her about how I couldn't find him and how he's been missing for about two days now.
"Where could he be?" She asked.
"I don't know." I said.
So we searched.
I called Tabitha and Adria and asked them to help too. We all split up to look. I thought of all of our favorite childhood places. I flew to every single one and no sign of my brother.
"MARK!" I screamed over and over.
He's has to hear me. He must! I can't loose my big brother!
"Please come back to me!" I whispered.
What if he left me. What if he felt as if I really didn't need him. What if he hates me now. What if he's gone evil! All of these 'what ifs' are making me light headed. I feel as if my whole world came crashing down. I need him. I was just upset that night! Why can't the world be nice to me? What have I done to deserve this?!
I went to one more spot. The forest. As children, we would go there to 'explore' and play when we didn't want to be around people. It was a place where the secrets never left. We only told our mother about it.
When I got there, I screamed his name over and over again. After a while, I was giving up. I literally went around the world to look for him. It's no use. He's probably gone. I started to cry. I cried my eyes out.
As I was about to leave I hear something.
"HELLO?" I call.
"EMILY!" I hear someone say. It muffled so I can't tell who it is.
"MARK?" I yell.
Then a blurry figure comes before me. I can't see clearly with the tears welling up in my eyes.
"Emily!" I hear Mark say.
"Mark!" I yell. I ran to him and hugged him. I was still crying because I didn't know how I felt.
"I'm so sorry for what I said. I was just mad at you. I didn't really mean it." I said.
"I know." He said.
"Why did you leave me?" I asked.
"I needed time after that night. Then I though I could stay here for a while. I guess I lost track of time." He said.
"You've been missing for about three days!" I exclaimed.
"I'm sorry." He said.
We went back to the academy and everyone crowded around Mark. They were all asking him questions and scolding him for leaving. Adria and I just stood inside laughing at the mob.
"So today, Allison helped me." I said.
Adria rolled her eyes.
"She's not bad. She did everything she could to help me." I said.
"What did you need help with?" Adria asked.
"I got too close to kryptonite. I couldn't get up. The piece was huge." I said.
"Oh." She said.
"C'mon. Give her a chance. She's not even Zach's friend anymore. Plus, I know how much you and Toni miss her." I said.
"I don't know Em. She left her best friends for the person who always bothered us. That's messed up." Adria said.
I shrugged.
"Oh and she also threw us under the bus MANY times." She said.
"I guess." I said.
"Well I'm going to go finish my training homework." She said and walked back to her room.
I decided to do the same.
