Chapter: Five (Beta Apprentice)

Jarlan's POV

"Jarlan!"

I turned around to see Bree. I felt Apollo purr as she came towards me, "Hey Bree" I said and she smiled gently grasping my hand.

'Omigosh! her smile is so cute!' Apollo said happily.

"Your smile is cute" I said not thinking about what I just said. She blushed red and turned away from me, I suddenly felt my eyes change and Apollo come out.

"Bree look at me" he said. She turned towards me and my hand came up and cupped her face, "Don't ever turn away from me my dear, You are beautiful." Before I knew what he was going to do I felt my lips come into contact with hers.

I was shocked but then I closed my eyes and felt myself push Apollo back. For a good minute we kissed. My hand went down towards her hips and hers went around my neck. Apollo howled in glory and I could feel Sadie shiver with pleasure.

Finally we broke apart.

I looked at her, she gently rested her head on my chest. My first kiss, I just had my first kiss with my mate.

"I-I need to go" she said and ran away. "Bree!" she kept on running.

'Apollo what did you do?' I demanded. 'I don't know!'

"Jarlan!"

I expected to see Bree but it was Kaydon. "Hey Jarlan I was wondering if you would like to walk with me for a bit." I nodded and we walked down a hallway.

For the longest time he didn't say a word as walked down the hallway. I had never seen it before it was seriously long and dark with only a few lights, finally we reached a door. He opened it and I looked down, there was a long flight of stairs leading into a darker hallway.

I gulped as he motioned me to follow him down. I closed the door and took a step down the stairs. "Ok I've had enough you said you wanted to talk with me so talk!" I ordered not caring that he was the Beta and had a higher rank than I did.

"I'm not going to be alive forever" he started. "Your younger then I am so I'm going to die before you will at one point in time. If I die before I have a child that reaches the age of 16 then this pack will be without a Beta.

"Why are you telling me about this, won't Asher choose another Beta?" Kaydon shook his head, "No, that is why I wanted to talk to you about this have you ever heard of a Beta's apprentice?" I frown and shook my head.

"It can happen to every member in the Pack, if the Alpha Pair is barren and can't have children then they take an apprentice who will take over the Alpha position. This can happen with Betas and Thirds.

"So?"

Kaydon sighed and turned to me, "How are you not getting this yet? Jarlan last week I brought Kitty to the Pack Doctor to test her on why we can't have children and trust me we have tried. Kitty is Barren and she can't have children her body won't let her have any!"

I lowered my head, "I'm sorry I didn't know."

Kaydon rested his hand on my shoulder, "I can feel your sympathy Jarlan Thank you, but that is why I brought you down here, the pack will need a Beta and I have thought carefully about this. I want you to be my Apprentice. I want you to be the next Beta of the Red Rising Pack.

I felt my heart stop, "I know this is a lot to take in and a bigger responsibility-"

"I'll do it."

Kaydon looked at me shocked, "What did you say?"

"I'll be your Apprentice."

He blinked in surprise then did the one thing I never thought he would ever do to me.

He hugged me.

"Thank you so much Jarlan" he said and let go of me, "I'm going to need to talk to the Alpha's about this."

"If you don't mind me asking why did you choose me?" I asked a little curious.

Kaydon chuckled a bit, "Well normally I would choose a pup to train but when I thought of who has the potential of being the Beta, you popped into my mind and after a good amount of thinking I chose you."

"I'll do my best to be a good apprentice" I said seriously.

He smiled, "I know you will Jarlan, you of all the wolves deserve this the most."

I am so sorry about the wait on this I have been so freaking busy with the last week of school, Christmas shopping, I'm still working at McDonald's and it's three days until Christmas.
