Chapter Two:

Desiree:

“Oh De, father’s home.” Amber, my eldest sister warned me as she cleaned in the background. I was on the phone to her and I was in my office/study. I sighed as I knew what that meant; he would want to know how my training was coming along to be the next Queen and if I had found my mate yet. I had not found my mate yet, much to my father’s despair and worry, but he would never tell me why he was worried and he would go off to the liquor cabinet afterwards.

“Alright, well he’ll be here soon then. I wonder if this trip was state or slut.” I moaned to my older sister.

“You’ll know as soon as he walks in.” I hear a smash from over the phone and wince at the sound. “I got to go little sister, Axon broke something. Bye.” I smiled at my sister’s misfortune and got on with my papers.

Even though I am the youngest, I’m 22, of the four children of King Reece and Queen Serena; I am the one that has to take the throne after my father. The reason behind it is that my mother became ill while carrying me and they gave her really strong werewolf blood as a transfusion while she was still pregnant. When she had me, I was stronger than other pups and I grew faster. I had my first shift at 6 and I was so scared, I didn’t know what was happening to me.

FLASHBACK

I was 6, my twin brothers, Clark and Ben, were 9 and my eldest sister, Amber was 12. In our Kingdom, it is the strongest child that becomes the next ruler and for a long time, we all thought it was Amber because she was not only the eldest, but the stronger one. She could take on both of the twins at the same time, but she didn’t like that so much duty was put on her shoulder. She had shifted at 8 years old and the twins had just shifted, a month before their 10th birthday. The twins couldn’t be the next King, neither of them could, because it wasn’t fair and we couldn’t have two Kings. They work better together and are weaker because there are two of them. They’re not identical twins though.

So when I was 6, I thought I’d be the one that shifted later than all three of my older siblings and boy was I wrong. I was in the garden, running around the bushes with my mother, it was one of the last times I saw her happy with me and we were playing catch with a baseball, but she threw it too far. I ran after it and after a while my little legs started to get really tense, it was like I wanted to jump out of my own skin. My heart rate was through the roof and I felt like I could hear my blood rushing around my body. I heard the familiar cracks of a shift and I looked around for my sister before pain rushed through me. I fell to the floor and before I landed, my blue dress got shredded and I was now on four legs with white paws. I was panting and my long tongue rolled out of my mouth. My senses were bombarding me and I was so scared.

My mother looked at me with shock and she put her hand to her mouth as she lightly shook her head. My father came rushing out and looked at me. I was apparently a normal sized wolf at 6 and I would only get bigger. My father looked at me with a rush of pride and came over to me. He hugged me and stroked my hair.

“I’ve got you baby girl, its ok.” He told me and he looked me in the eyes. “Shift.” He used his commanding voice and I couldn’t say no, so my body convulsed again till I was a heap on the floor and I was naked. My father took off his t-shirt and put it on me. It completely swallowed me.

“What happened?” I asked as he sat me on his lap and we sat on the grass, soaking in the sun. Mum had grabbed the twins and run inside, probably telling Amber what happened.

“You shifted little girl.”

“But I’m only 6.”

“You’re special. You’re the next Queen and you’re training starts now.” From that day on, my father became just the King to me and my trainer while my mother focused more on my siblings. It was like I was no longer important as a daughter to them; I was just the next Queen. My sister Amber was so glad that she no longer had to go through the training and she basically raised me from the moment I shifted till I was 18.
