Dr. Tanner ran to his office as the other docs took the two patients away from the room. He had to inform the president anytime something like this happened, and his daily report was due in an hour anyways.

Tanner quickly locked every door and window. He pulled the shades down quickly and scanned his print.

Instead of calling the president, he first called the project leader. "Hello?" the man answered on the other line. "Did the operation work? Is patient 003 fixed?"

"It may have gone worse than we imagined, Director Thomason." Tanner explained the failed attempt and the collapsed wall. He never left any details out.

"Are you kidding?" Thomason cursed. "That information was classified, and now the patients may know! You can't hide much from a telepath, you know. She will find out and put the mission in jeopardy!"

"Now wait a minute," Tanner said in a calming voice. "You told us on the first day you worked here that you personally knew every kid effected! You know what they are like, so how will they react to the truth?"

There was a long moment of silence on the other side of the line. "Yes, I did know them. They were always hanging out with each other. Even at seventy-one I still recall everything they did without me. I know that 003 will react with anger at being kept from the truth, but 004 may try to see the good in it. 001 will probably refuse along with 002. They will disagree on it. Until the president comes, don't go into the rooms. Make everyone wear the new shades. If 004 finds out telepathically, everything will go wrong."

"I have a feeling that she will find out sooner or later, might as well break it to them now. The president is visiting to see patients 034, 046, and 102 tomorrow and he would like to also see patients 001-004."

Director Thomason sighed. "The project has been intact for the first 20 years, and I was brought here when another bioastroids attacked." He sighed, remembering being 32 and asked to join this project. "Out of the 121 people affected, now only seven are awake and 35 are still in comas. The rest are dead, Tanner. I didn't expect the first four to live this long. Ever since those bioastroids started hitting, everyone's been panicing. If we are going to prevent this alliance between the axis and the aliens, we need Project Radioactive to activate, and quickly. I think that it's time for the four to meet the other patients and the president."

Dr. Tanner nodded. He met Dr. Thomason when they were both engineers for the experiments. The director was the only one who knew the first five patents.

He was Zachary Thomason, Zander's little brother.
