Walking down stairs towards the kitchen with Delbert and Jim, you memorized the way back. Delbert was still mad at how the feline from before aka, the captain, had treated him. Mr. Arrow protested, being very loyal to his captain.
He pushed you into the kitchen and you began to breathe in the aroma of delicious food. You heard someone whistling a joyful tune and once you looked forward, a silhouette of a stout, furry creature greeted you.
Your eyes adjusted to the dim lighting of the room and you noticed that one-fourth of the person's body were made of metal and somehow controlled still. You gasped when you reallized it was made part machine, part flesh. You gasped softly in realization.
"A cyborg!" You mumbled. You turned to see Jim and realized he was also staring at the cyborg in a way as if he didn't trust him. He locked a gaze with yours and you knew he'd realized the same thing. Just the thought of Billy Bones' chilling-to-the-bone last words made you cringe.
"Beware... The cyborg!"
Could it be...? Could it be that this cyborg was who he had meant? You weren't so sure yet, so you kept your mouth shut.
"Mr. Silver!" Mr. Arrow called. The cyborg turned and laid a red, mechanical eye at you.
"'Ello Mr. Arrow, sir!" He greeted, tucking his shirt into his pants.
"I would like to introduce our travellers. Here's Doctor Delbert Doppler, the one who called us all to this voyage."
"Love the outfit, doc!" He commented, scanning Delbert's outfit with a laser on his cyborg eye. Delbert covered whatever was necessary, who knew if it's x-ray vision he was using. You watched his actions very carefully, noting that his extremely built machinery gave realistic human movements and... additions.
You decided not to think about it and took a deep breath. You did not know what to do at that moment.
The cyborg came towards Jim and you with his metal hand outstretched, gesturing for a handshake. At first, his metal hand were layers of tools, but when he noticed, he quickly replaced it with a safe to handle metal hand. Jim didn't dare touch it, giving him a dirty look. Mr. Silver then mocked hurt and drawed his hand back.
"Aw, don't be afraid of these," He motioned to his metal hand, "They can be quite handy."
Very funny, you bit back a reply as you watched with amusement. Mr. Silver switched to different tools while chopping ingredients, placing them in a pan, adding seasoning and made flame erupt from a lighter to heat the pan. He poured whatever was in the pan, into another container, and started stirring with a laddle. Then, he grabbed three bowls and spoons and served each of you a stew of some sort.
"Here now. Have a taste of me famous bonzabeast stew." He said.
Delbert sniffed the stew and licked at few times, "Mmm," He cherished the smell. "Delightfully tangy, yet robust."
"Oh, it's an old family recipe." Mr. Silver said. Suddenly, an eyeball popped into the surface of the stew, making poor Delbert cry out in fright.
"In fact," Mr. Silver pointed at the eyeball, "That was part of the old family!" He burst into a fit of laughter, grabbed the eyeball with his fingers and popped it in his mouth, gulping it down with ease.
You stared at your stew, suddenly disgusted and lost your appetite. Yet it still smelled so good, you grabbed your spoon and tasted it. You hummed. This is good, you thought to yourself. You suddenly heard high-pitched giggling, and you were brought back to reality. You doze off often, something you've recently discovered about yourself, and is written in your List Of Bad Habits.
"-that's a morph!" You heard Mr. Silver say. You looked up and saw Jim petting a floating blob. Pink in color, and had high-pitched squealing and fits of giggles. The morph floated over to you and circled around you, through your (H/C) hair and lifting it to pretend it had hair like yours- Like a wig. You thought it was adorable and you couldn't help but giggle. "Hello there."
It squeaked in response, floating back to Mr. Silver. You heard someone clear his throat, and the three of you turned your attention to Mr. Arrow.
"You'll be having some company for the whole voyage, Mr. Silver," Mr. Arrow said, turning to leave. Delbert followed suit, and so did you and Jim, only to stop when Mr. Arrow pushed the both of you back. "You will be in charge of Mr. Hawkins and (Y/N)."
With that, Mr. Silver spit out whatever he was tasting and wheezed, "What?!"
Mr. Arrow repeated, loud and clear, "You, Mr. Silver, will be in charge of these young children."
"But," the both of them exclaimed.
"No buts," Mr. Arrow said before climbing up the stairs to the main deck with Delbert.
There was an awkward silence at first, then Mr. Silver sighed.
"So, Jimbo and (Nick/Name: N/N), you'll be with me for the whole journey. I have me own rules, and you best respect 'em."
Jim hummed, and I simply nodded as Mr. Silver turned to make a stew of some sort. Jim grabbed a Perp from one of the barrels and switched from one hand to another, as if juggling it. He then circled around the stove in the middle of the kitchen and sat on the counter. While doing so, he said,
"You know, Mr. Silver, these perps are kinda like what we have in Montressor," You glanced at Mr. Silver, seeing that he didn't even flinch. You knew what Jim was doing. He was becoming suspicious of the cyborg, and you were starting to as well. He continued, "Have you, by any chance, ever been there?"
You leaned your shoulder on the barrel, keeping a close eye on the cyborg.
"Can't say I have, Jimbo," he replied.
"Well," you began. "We met this cyborg there,"-You put a hand on your forehead, pretending that you were trying to remember something-"What was his name? Oh yeah. Bones,"
Mr. Silver didn't flinch.
"Billy Bones." Jim continued.
"Bones," Mr. Silver repeated. "Bones? Huh. Sorry kids, but aye haven't heard of a fellah named Bones."
Mr. Silver continued making dinner for the whole crew. You were starting to feel like Jim wasn't expecting that for an answer. Neither were you, so you decided to just keep your eyes open.
Jim was about to say something, when suddenly a booming sound followed by orders of Mr. Arrow rang in your ears. Mr. Silver placed a shoulder in both yours and Jim's.
"Why don't ye kids watch the take-off. Much more interestin' than cookin' eh? Go on," he said.
You and Jim started up the stairs, and you could've sworn you heard Mr. Silver talking to someone. You shrugged it off, he was probably cooing at Morph.
On your way up the stairs, Jim spoke up.
"Do you believe that guy?" Jim glanced at you with a hopeful look. You shrugged in response, "I'm not sure yet. But I get why you're so suspicious."
"I'm glad you do, because I don't trust him."
"You shouldn't jump into conclusions, Jim." You said.
He ignored your reply and just continued to walk towards the deck.
The take-off was both exciting and terrifying. If it weren't for the artificial gravity around the LSS, you would be floating in space. Yeah, you might have stumbled a few times here and there, with Jim to help you. But all in all, you were fine.
That's for the take-off. How could your day get any better?
