Chapter Six
“July 4th, July 4th!”
I laughed as I watched my sister dance around the kitchen wiggling her tiny bum and waving a little American flag.
“Are you excited to see your friends?”
“Yes!”
Mia’s best friends were the three little triplet girls who stayed next door. The girls only ever saw each other in the summer and hen they did they sure made it count.
My mom walked into the kitchen and laughed when she saw Mia.
“Mia! Will you stop dancing like that and help Ava with the salad please!”
“Hey mom…”
“Yes Ava?” She turned to face her oldest daughter as she began to peel a potato.
I pulled the crumpled flyer Niall had given me the day before and handed it to her, quickly pulling my hand behind my back and crossing my fingers.
“No.”
“What! Please mom!”
My dad entered the kitchen at that moment and grabbed an apple. Taking a bite he walked over and read over my moms shoulder.
“Let her go, Lucy.”
My mom turned quickly to look at him with a questioning look on her face.
“What?”
“Let her go?”
“Are you sure about this, Tim?”
“Ava?”
“Yes dad?”
“Behave.”
