Chapter Seven

My toes gripped the sand as I made my way down the beach. I looked down at my white shorts and light blue tank top. My hair hung down in loose waves and I had on minimal make-up. I didn’t bother wearing shoes as the constant supply of sand would drive me mad.

I looked back and smiled at the scene before me. The sun had just set and Mia was hurtling around the beach carrying a sparkler as her friends chased her. I turned and began walking and glancing up the first flames of a fire came into view, as I walked closer I saw more teenagers, atleast 20. Some sat on big logs that had been placed around the fire. Others were sitting cross-legged on the sand and a few couples were walking hand in hand along the shore. The stars were beginning to appear, a hint on what a beautiful night it would be.

I jumped as two strong arms were flung around my waist, spinning me around twice then setting me back down on the floor. Niall.

“I knew you would come!” he beamed at me.

“Well a promise is a promise.”

“Touché”

He beckoned me to follow him to a log on the far side of the fire and sat down smiling as he waited for me to join him.

“You look nice tonight.”

I smiled and looked into the fire that was now burning fiercely and felt myself blushing.

“Thanks.” I murmured.

“ You are also adorable when you blush.”

I gently shoved him with my shoulder before looking at my surroundings.

“Do you want to come meet my friends?”

I turned to Niall and nodded excitedly. Then to my surprise and delight he stood up grabbing my hand in the process and pulling me up with him…and he didn’t let go.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

I laughed as Niall’s friend, Sam, dropped yet another marshmellow in the sand. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, I felt completely at ease. I allowed myself to once again match names to their faces.

First was Sam, the one who just could not keep a marshmellow on his stick, he was tall and dark with green eyes and a easy, laidback disposition. Next to him was Josh. Josh was shorter then Sam but very well built. He was blond and blue eyed and extremely loud. His girlfriend sat next to him, Kate. She was dark haired and fair skinned and unlike her boyfriend, was shy and quiet. Another couple sat next to Josh and Kate, Luke and Taylor. They mainly kept to themselves talking quietly and rarely contributing to the conversation. Taylor was beautiful, she had long auburn hair, pale skin and green eyes. Luke was fair skinned with pitch black hair and perfect teeth.  They really were a model couple.

I looked over again at Niall who was seeing how many marshmellows he could fit into his mouth without gagging. He caught me looking at him and attempted a smile which I gladly returned. He was wearing a light blue polo shirt and khaki long pants. His hair was damp from swimming or showering and he was barefoot too.

I was pulled out of my observations when the sound of a guitar sounded. I looked around to see Josh begin to play the first few chords of the song ‘Summer of ‘69’ by Bryan Adams and I began to sing along and clap with the others.

“Dance with me.”

I looked up to find Niall grinning down at me. I jumped up and took his hand as he led me to a spot next to the fire, then guiding my hands up to him neck and placing his big hands on my waist, we began to dance, and sing, and fall inlove.
