Chapter Fifteen

“Do you want some hot chocolate?” I asked as we entered the empty house.

“Yes please, but I’ll make it. You go get warm please.”

I smiled at his concern and ran upstairs to my room.

After singing about ten songs together at the top of our lungs we both decided to head back to Niall’s house so he could change before coming over to mine. He was now wearing flip-flops, blue jeans, a white vest and a black hoodie.  I put on my blue jeans, red Vans and sweater and ran back downstairs, pulling my damp hair into a messy ponytail as I went.

“You look pretty.” Niall commented as I entered the lounge.

“Thanks.” I smiled before kissing him quickly on the cheek and walking to the kitchen to get my hot chocolate Niall had made.

“This is the best!” I exclaimed after sitting down next to him anf taking my first sip.

Niall grinned and took my free hand in his. I smiled as I felt him play with my fingers as he read the magazine he had in his hand.

“Do you read ‘Preteen’ often, Niall?” I teased.

He flipped the magazine quickly to the cover and blushed when he realized what he was reading. I laughed and re-positioned myself on the couch with my feet over the side and head resting on Niall’s chest.

We stayed in silence for awhile, me reading my book and Niall engrossed in ‘Preteen’ again.

“Hey,” I looked up at Niall, waiting for him to continue. “it’s stopped raining.”

I lifted my head up off Niall and looked out the large sliding door.

The dark clouds were now in the distance and the late afternoon sun was shining on the wetness that was covering the earth.

“So it has.” I smiled.

Niall moved my body gently and stood up, then turning around and offering his hand to pull me up. Confused, I took it, letting him oull me to my feet.

“Where are we going?”

I smiled.

“I am taking you out for an early dinner.”

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The damp boardwalk was filled with rollerbladers and bikes, children and parents, as Niall and I walked hand in hand towards the food.

“What do ya’ fancy?” he said, his Irish accent thick.

“I don’t mind. What do you want?”

“Is that a trick question? I want everything!”

I laughed and we eventually settled on hamburgers before walking slowly to the very end of the pier and sitting down to eat. The waves were crashing gently below us and my hair blew a little in the warm breeze as or feet dangled off the edge.

I watched as Niall took a big bite of his hamburger, causing a large amount of its contents to drop into the packet he held it in. I laughed as he looked at me wide-eyed. His whole face area was covered in tomato sauce and he blushed when he realized.

“Shut-up. Your face isn’t so clean yourself.” He smirked, recovering from the embarrassment.

My hand flew up to my face and quickly wiped it off, shooting a glare or two at Niall who sat laughing hysterically.

“Ava, you are too cute, do you know that?”

“Of course.” I joked.

Then sun was just setting as we stood up to leave. Throwing my hamburger packet in a nearby rubbish bin I began to walk slowly back to land, waiting for Niall to catch up.

The end of the pier, where we were, was now completely empty as all the fishermen had gone home for the night and everyone was at the rides and games on the next pier.

I turned around to face Niall only to see him still leaning on the railing staring out at the ocean. I turned and walked back, puting my arms around his waist from behind him.

“It’s beautiful,hey?”

“You’re beautiful.” He smirked, looking at me over his shoulder.

“Hilarious.” I laughed sarcastically.

He was silent for a moment before he laughed. I turned him around to face me and looked up into his eyes smiling.

“What?” I asked.

“Do you want to do something crazy?”

“Sure.”

“Let’s go swimming.” Niall said excitedly, pointing to the ocean 10 feet below us.

“I don’t have a bathing suit though.”

Niall smirked.

“Me neither, that’s what’s crazy about, Ava.”

My heart rate quickened as I looked into his eyes. They were challenging me. I smirked right back before pulling off my shorts. Niall stood frozen for a minute before pulling off his shirt. I kept his gaze as I kicked off my shoes, so did he. In one quick movement I slipped my shirt off, leaving me standing in only my underwear. Niall quickly undid his pants and stepped out of them leaving him standing in his black jocks. I smiled at him and moved closer, taking is hand and pulling him over to the railing. We let go of each other briefly to climb through the rails before joining hands again. Niall looked at me and grinned.

“You ready?”

“Yes.” I breathed, and before I had a chance to change my mind we were dropping into the deep, dark blue, laughing as only two teenagers can.

I surfaced from the warm water breathless, looking for Niall. A few moments later I spotted him a few feet away. The stars were out by now and the only light we had was from the moon.

I swam over and wrapped my arms around his neck, leaning in for a quick kiss before shoving him underwater. He emerged a few seconds later laughing and spluttering.

“Niall, I can’t believe we’re swimming, in the ocean, in our underwear!” I shrieked in delight.

Niall laughed out loud and pulled me close.

“Ava?”

“Yeah?”

His expression had suddenly become serious.

“I love you.”
