Chapter Thirteen

“Niall, stop it, you’re annoying me tonight.” I laughed as Niall, yet again, wiggled his bare foot in my face.

We were lying on a blanket with Mia on the grass watching the stars. Niall and I were lying top to tail and Mia was next to him. Niall had had a great evening helping my mom cook, playing Barbies with Mia and was now taking great delight in wiggling his toes in my face.

“Niall. I’m serious. Stop.” I said, trying to maintain a serious expression as a foot yet again was wiggled under my nose. Grabbing his foot in both hands I quickly leaned down and bit it hard, causing him to sit up and scream, before I turned myself around onto my back up next to Mia, shooting a playful death stare at Niall who was rubbing his wounded foot.

“Stop being so dramatic.” I laughed, rolling my eyes then winking at a giggling Mia.

“That was so uncalled for, Ava.” He muttered with a smile he was attempting to hide.

“What?” I sat bolt upright. “That was totally called for! Your stinking feet were in my face!”

Niall laughed and looked at me with a fond expression as he observed my blonde hair in a messy bun, baggy pajama pants and no make-up.

“Whatever, Ava.”

The dark garden was suddenly lit up as the door was swung open reveling my mom in her pink fluffy night gown and slippers. Her hair was wet and her face, too, was free of make-up.

“Mia-Moo, bed time please!” she called out.

“Mom…” Mia whined.

“No, Mia, don’t even try argue with me please!”

Mia sighed loudly and rolled off the blanket, muttering her goodnight to me before throwing her arms around Niall. He buried his head in her neck and rocked her gently, grinning at me over her shoulder.

I smiled at my little sisters crush on Niall and watched as she whispered in his ear before running off laughing into the house.

“What did she say to you?”

“Nothing to do with you, Mrs. Nosey.” He winked.

“Fine.” I said, turning over the opposite way.

“Okay I’m sorry, love.”

I felt my stomach erupt in butterflies as he placed his strong arm around my waist and pulling me into his warm chest.

I looked up at him as he placed a quick kiss on my fore head before turning his head up to look at the stars.

“You smell nice.” I whispered, snuggling deeper into him and inhaling the strong, clean, boyish smell he had.

“You smell like strawberries.” He mumbled into my hair.

I wanted to remember this moment forever. The way Niall smelled. The way he talked. How warm his body was against mine and how it felt that it was made to hold mine close. I wanted to remember his laugh and his beautiful eyes. I wanted to remember everything and it was there in that moment under the stars I had my first thought that this summer would have to eventually end.

“What are you thinking about?” Niall murmured, breaking me from my melancholy thoughts.

“Nothing.” I lied.

“You are thinking about something…you are biting the insides of your cheeks. You do that when you’re thinking.”

I felt his eyes on me and I looked up to meet his gaze. He stared at me for a minute before leaning down and gently kissing both my eyelids, leaving my eyes closed, then briefly on the lips.

I pulled away and smiled before looking up at the starlit sky. In a moment a flash  caught my eye and I gasped. I felt Niall’s arm around me tighten.

“Did you see that?” he whispered breathlessly.

The star had disappear as quickly as it had come but could still see it as clear as day in my mind.

“I did.”

“Did you make a wish?”

I shook my head then closed my eyes. I felt Niall pull me a bit closer and I knew we were both wishing the same thing.
