Prologue
My legs were stiff and sore as I climbed out of the beat up blue Volkswagen that was parked outside the white double story beach house. The blue shutters were shut tight and the door was locked behind the screen door that had been closed since last summer. The early July breeze was warm and the salty air was familiar and fresh.
‘Ava, please help me with the bags!’
I turned around and smiled as my eight year old sister tugged and pulled and her green duffel bag.
‘Mia, we’re staying for the summer not the year.’ I laughed as I began tugging more bags free from the over-packed car.
We had been coming to the beach house for longer than I could even remember, way before Mia had been born and every summer was a new adventure. The beach house held many firsts for me. My first steps, first words, first kiss, but that summer had something different to the others. That was the summer I met Niall.
