PART ONE HUNDRED: TESTS

A couple weeks later, my life got slightly hectic. Regular season hockey was in full swing, which meant traveling and a whole lot of working. Not only that, but Patrick and I were hosting the team Halloween party again, so I had to prepare for that. But on top of everything, there was one thing that I couldn't get off of my mind. Patrick and I had tried for a baby for the first time at the beginning of the month, and I was supposed to be getting (or not getting) my period soon. That was honestly the only thing I could completely focus on. It got to a point where the people around me were beginning to notice.

"You've seemed a little off lately. Are you alright, Lena?" Both the head trainer and Brad had asked me this at work. I had to shake it off and neglect to give details about any possible body changes - Patrick and I were keeping the whole thing a secret from pretty much everyone.

"Yeah, I'm just a little stressed is all. I'm trying to find a balance between getting back into working all the time and planning the team party. Jonathan and Tess are working on their wedding, too, and I try to help them out when I can. It's just a lot," I told everyone. It wasn't like I was lying - I was just leaving out one specific thing. I didn't want to get everybody excited for a baby in case there were issues, so I just kept my mouth shut about it. I was freaking out about it enough on the inside, anyways.

On the day that I was supposed to get my period, I checked my app that kept track of ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy, etc. There was no point in checking it, really - I had already done so about twenty times in the past week - but I did anyways. And I continued to do so the next day, and the day after that, and the day after that.

Waiting around was torture, but when I was finally a week late, I took a trip to buy some pregnancy tests. Patrick had asked me a few times if I was late and when I was going to get tests. Although I knew he'd love to be there with me when I found out, I decided that if I was pregnant, it would be more fun to surprise him with the information. So, I took three pregnancy tests while he was out with friends. Each test ended up with the same result. Although it was nerve-wracking to do that alone, I felt more at ease when Patrick came home later that evening so we could have dinner together and talk. When we had finished with our tacos, I brought him into our bedroom.

"I found something cute at the Blackhawks store earlier today," I told him, grabbing a bag out of our closet.

"Oh, yeah?" I handed him the bag and he reached inside. He held up the small article of clothing that was in it. It was a onesie that looked like a Kane jersey.

"Are you doing Christmas shopping for the team's kids early this year?" he wondered, confused.

"No, it's for the summer," I told him. For a moment, he didn't seem to understand, but then his facial expression shifted from confusion to happiness.

"You're pregnant?" he wondered. I grabbed the pregnancy tests and showed him the lines that indicated that they all were positive.

"We're having a baby, Pat," I smiled. He immediately pulled me into a tight hug, almost crushing me in the process. Neither of us could stop grinning at that point.

"Holy shit, we're having a baby!" he exclaimed.

"I know," I giggled. "I love you, Pat."

"I love you too, Lean. I love you so damn much."

Although Patrick and I wanted to tell everyone our news immediately, we decided to wait until our Halloween party, and we were going to use costumes to announce the pregnancy. We were going to be Juno and Bleeker. If us dressing as a pregnant couple didn't scream that we were having a baby, I didn't know what would.

When the day of the party finally arrived, Jonathan and Tess were the first to show up, as expected. They absolutely adored our costumes, but they didn't seem to understand the point of them at first.

"Oh my god, Juno and Bleeker?! That's amazing!" Tess laughed as soon as she walked though the door to our decorated apartment. I loved their costumes as much as they loved ours. They were dressed as Deb and Napoleon from Napoleon Dynamite.

"Your costumes are great, too! I love the side ponytail," I told Tess.

"Thanks. Is it awkward, wearing that fake baby bump?" she questioned me.

"A little, but I'm going to have to get used to the feeling." For a moment, Tess and Jonathan just exchanged strange looks, and then realization hit them.

"Wait...you guys are trying for a baby?" Jonathan asked.

"We already did," Patrick replied.

"You're pregnant?" Tess inquired. I nodded and she immediately wrapped me up in a tight hug.

"Holy shit, congratulations! I didn't even know you were already planning on having a kid! Why didn't you say anything?"

"I knew you'd get all excited and bug me about it constantly if I did, so I figured it would be more fun to surprise everyone."

"Does anyone know?"

"Just the four of us know so far. Since the party isn't supposed to start for another thirty minutes, we're telling our parents now."

I quickly Skyped with my parents and Brian separately, and all three of them were absolutely ecstatic to hear the news. Patrick Skyped his parents and called each of his sisters, and I think his sisters were more excited than anyone. They were screaming through the receiver about how they were super happy for us and they couldn't wait to be aunts. It was really sweet, and Patrick and I were both so glad to hear that everyone was as happy as we were about it.

After such a success with telling our family the news, the Halloween party went really, really well. We announced our news to the team, and they also took it well. Even though I had to stick to my own non-alcoholic punch while everyone else drank, it was still a great party and a fantastic Halloween. I felt like there was nothing that could possibly tear me down from the high I was on.

Hey guys! I can't believe this is the 100th chapter of this book! I've been working on this story for so long. Even though there are still plenty of chapters left, this story is getting closer to coming to a close, which is insane. Don't freak out, because it's not over yet and it probably won't end until late summer (I want to be able to finish out the current season and  the post season in this story). I still want to thank you all so much for sticking with me through 100 chapters, though. I know updates have gotten considerably slower compared to the way they were a couple years ago. A lot of different factors have affected my writing and how often I'm able to post chapters. The course load of college, an attempt to balance my me time and my social life, and an attempt to balance my writing between multiple stories are just a few of them. But so many of you are understanding and even if it takes a month or two for a new chapter to be posted, you're still excited and you vote and comment anyways. I really appreciate all of your support, so thank you. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, although I have a feeling most of you are happy to hear Pat and Lena's big news! If you liked it, I'd love for you to vote for this part. Comments are always welcome too :)
