PART EIGHTY-NINE: THE HONEYMOON PHASE

Patrick's POV

I knew the hockey withdrawals were bound to kick in some time. With only a couple days left of our honeymoon, I started to feel them - the urge to go skating, the desire for the ice and cold temperatures, the slight loneliness from not being around my teammates. But, at the same time, I was so happy to be with Lena on such a breathtaking island, and we only had a couple days left, so we needed to embrace and enjoy them.

By the end of the week, we had done just about everything possible on the resort and we both had gotten enough of a tan to be able to call everyone at home pale. It was a really fun honeymoon, I had to say. And sure, the frigid cold of Chicago was a bit of a shock when we left the airport after our flight back home, but we would get used to it again.

"Welcome back, Peeks," Sharpy greeted me when I entered the locker room for the first time in a week. It definitely felt like I was home again.

"So, how was the honeymoon?" Shawzy asked.

"It was awesome," I replied as I began to change into my hockey gear for practice.

"What all did you guys do?" Saadfather wondered.

"Before he answers, what exactly do you mean by that, Saader? Please clarify," Shaw laughed, but I just rolled my eyes.

"We swam with dolphins, surfed, got massages, and had a ton of good food," I told them. "You don't need to know the details!"

Being back on the ice felt amazing, and it made me feel at ease. We had a team lunch and there was a game at home the next day that we got pumped up for. Everything put me in a really good mood, so I was a very happy human when I finally got home.

"We should try to go ice skating tonight," I suggested as I took off all my extra layers of clothing.

"It's really cold out there, Pat. And we just got back, don't you want to take it easy for a few days?"

"No," I replied, hugging her from behind. "Do you wanna build a snowman?" I began to sing, and she giggled at my not-so-great voice.

"It's Tazer degrees outside but it feels way colder with the wind. Let me adjust to this windy city weather before we start having snow days."

"Did you really just say 'Tazer degrees outside?'"

"Why do you want to be outside so badly, anyways?" she ignored my question.

"Because I missed the snow," I admitted. "Ya know, if we went outside it would give us an excuse to have peppermint hot chocolate."

"I don't need an excuse to have peppermint hot chocolate," she scoffed.

"You can't just have hot chocolate for no reason!" I scolded her as she went into the kitchen to make some.

"Since when?"

"Since now!" I picked her up and threw her over my shoulder before she could get the mix out.

"Patrick! Put me down!" she shouted, punching me in the back. I didn't listen until we had reached our bedroom, which was cluttered with our still unpacked suitcases. I laid her down on our bed and grimaced. She started to sit up, but I got on top of her and pinned her wrists down before she could escape.

"You're not going anywhere," I said as I attacked her neck.

"I'm tired, Pat," she complained.

"Me too," I confessed.

"Let's take a nap," Lena decided, playing with my hair.

"Like, a real nap, or...?" She punched me lightly in the arm for that, so I got off of her and laid on my side. I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close to me. She gripped the extra blanket on the end of the bed with her feet and pulled it until it was in reach. We draped it over ourselves and after a few minutes, we were sound asleep.
