Red Sock

I drove home that night,

Thinking of all the words I could've said,

All the words I should've said.

I spotted a red sock on the back seat,

I laughed.

I laughed a lot because if you were in this car next to me,

I would've scolded you,

And you would sag your shoulders and pretend to be ashamed.

Only to crack up laughing.

And I would try to keep a straight face,

Only to fail miserably,

As a ghost of a smile appeared on my chapped lips.

So Phil I laughed,

I laughed till cars honked at me

Asking me to drive faster,

But I simply pulled over,

To keep laughing.

Laughing at our precious memories.

Laughing at our jokes.

Laughing at myself for ever letting you go.
