Once I saw his face, I realized I have met Dean before.
A knowing smirk formed on his lips.
Oh no....
*******
"Katy, could you please pass the salt"
Yup, that's me salt-girl-Katy. That is all everyone asks me to do.
"So, Katy, Tobias tells us you're on the school newspaper" said Mr. Kolt.
How does Tobi even know I'm on the school newspaper? We don't even go to the same school.
Stalker much?
"Well, I haven't exactly joined, yet"
"Well, at least you're participating in something" said Mrs. Kolt eyeing Tobias, who was currently stuffing his face with food.
I shivered at the word 'participating'.
"I'm sure Tobias, does something"
Tobias, on cue, nodded messily.
Dean, who I seemed to have forgotten, scoffed."Oh yeah... he does something, alright-"
Dean was cut off. By the look on his face, his mom probably kicked him. She gave him a dirty look.
"Tobias is...uh...creative " said Mrs. Kolt still giving Dean a stare down.
Dean rolled his eyes and muttered something along the lines of 'destructive more like it'
Couldn't help but agree with him. I'm sure Tobias didn't mean what he did most of the time but come on, he torched his mothers car.
"Oh really, y'know I was an artist as well" my dad said rather proudly.
"Dad, please don't" I said hands covering my face.
"Really...." asked Mr. Kolt, "my grandfather was an artist"
Dean and Tobias' had a glint of mischief in their emerald eyes.
They exchanged looks."We'd be delighted if you share your tales of wonder, Mr Emerson"
Sofia suppressed a laugh. Even she knew what was coming next. The Emerson home was all to acquainted with dads ridiculous stories. He'd also been a fireman, a police man and the president.
Of Russia."No, no you won't" I tried to reason with them. Obviously, I failed. Dad went on and on about how his painting cured the blind.
No, seriously he did.Mr. Kolt was not helping. He was even encouraging him. I needed to escape.
"Oh, it seems like the juice finished"
"I'll get it!" I stood up hurriedly, collected the bottle and grabbed Tobias with me.
Once we were in the kitchen. I smacked him upside the head.
"Ow!" He said rubbing the back of his head. "What was that for?"
"Why am I here? What did you do?"
"Do you want the full story or just the part that has to do with you?" He asked slyly.
I glared at him, lips pursed.
"Okay, fine." He said getting the hint. "After I came back home mum found out I also put holes in the curtains-"
"You-"
"SSH!" He then continued. "Then she said all my friends we're miscreants. I was like no I have one friend who is smart and super cool"
"So, you made me go through that" I pointed at the doorway, where our parents we're laughing at some stupid joke Mr. Kolt made.
"Precisely," he nodded.
My eye twitched. I wanted to strangle him. I gave him the bottle. "Fill." And walked back to the dining room.
Mr. Kolt was in the middle of telling them all about his high school years.
"What school do you go to, Katy" asked Mrs. Kolt.
"Uh... Eastwood High"
"What a coincidence, that's Deans school."
"Really?" Sofia said. "What a small world"
No, not really.
"Actually, we've met before" said Dean, somewhat darkly
Whatever he said was going to be some warped form of the truth, I could tell.
"How?" My dad said
"She tried to murder me with a book" he deadpanned and shrugged. Who does that?!
Everyone was looking at me. Anna and Maria were laughing and Sofia nearly choked.
"It was an accident!" I defended.
"That's not what you said" Dean said to himself but I still heard and glared at him. He glared back.
"Who wants to see my sea bass collection" said Mr. Kolt trying to change the subject. The parentals left with Anna, Maria and Tobias.
Once we were alone I threw my fork at his head.
He ducked it. "Hey!"
"Why'd you go and say that, huh?" I asked eyes narrowed.
"Well you just proved me right, psycho"
"Do you want another knife thrown at your head?"
"No thank you I like my head the way it is"
"Then zip"
"Are you always so aggressive?"
"Are you always so annoying?"
"Touché"
We just sat there glaring at each other.
He grinned suddenly. "See you in school"
I was taken back because I definitely did not expect that. I mean, of all the things to possibly say...
I couldn't reply partially because I didn't have a reply and partially because the twevils walked in at that moment.
"Catty, mum and dad said we should come call you" said Maria.
"Yeah, so say goodbye to your boy....friend "
Whoa, pause and rewind. My what?
"No, no no we are not-"
"Blah, blah, let's go already"
I rolled my eyes. They are so...annoying.
This dinner has got to be the worst idea Sofia and my Dad have had in forever.
Wait!
Annoying dinner with neighbours? Isn't this a cliché?
I'll have find out tomorrow*****
