You expect a lot of things when you walk through the doors of school.
You expect to be knocked down by a bully. You expect to face another boring homeroom.
You even expect to be pelted by rocks. Not speaking from experience or anything.
But what you don't expect is to be shoved up against a locker by your best friend.
"What the heck, Lynn?!" I exclaimed.
"Sorry" she said letting go of me. "But its an emergency"
It better be good. Does she know how long it took me to get the creases off this shirt?
"Oh really?" I said dryly
"Uh-huh" she nodded fast. "Its a Tod- emergency" she sighed with her hands clasped together.
I rolled my eyes. And held in my scream. That's all I've heard lately Tod this and Tod that...
"If he's drowning let him drown"
"He's not drowning. He asked me out"
"Of class?" I asked hopefully.
She laughed. "No, silly. On a date"
Oh....no....
"Please tell me you said no"
"Why would I do that." she looked at me like I had grown another head. " I said yes, duh."
"Oh joy" I quipped.
"I know!"
"But what has that got to do with me?"
"I need your help, duh"
"With what..."
"The date, duh"
If she 'duhs' one more time.
"No." I said and began walking away.
I may seem mean but Tod is not right for her. I'm just being a good friend.
"Why not?" She whined as she caught up.
"Because I don't support said relationship"
"Oh come on, I helped you, you help me" she said standing in front of me arms crossed.
My eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about?"
"A certain someone,-what was his name again.....?"
"Obviously Lynn, you must have lost it"
This time her eyes narrowed. "Ethan.."
My eyes widened in recollection.
"Don't say his name"
"Or maybe it was Eric...."
"Do not say his-"
She snapped her fingers. "That's right, Erin Thames"
I growled at her. Yes, growled.
And before you all go into Oh-no-she-was-in-love-with-the-most-popular-boy-in-school mode. I'll explain.
Erin, Lynn and I were best friends in middle school. I might have maybe had a tiny- who am I kidding, okay, so I had a HUGE crush on him. And we sort if dated until. He left. Without telling me.
I might be maybe a tiny bit angry.
Which is why....
"Why did you say his name?!"
What is it with my best friends and ruining my morning?
"That's not the point, the point is we promised to help each other"
