The drive was longer than I had expected, but we weren't headed to any form of civilization that I could tell. We were headed into the mountains.

The men that had taken me had propped me up in an uncomfortable way, and spoke in Italian. I tried to talk to them, to tell them to let me go, that I wasn't the girl they were looking for, but the words came out muffled. I couldn't move my face enough to make sense.

Sighing, I watched the passing scenery, and thought about why they could want me. Sure, I knew a lot, but I swore not to talk when Dominick let me go. That meant something with the families. Even ones Dominick had no alliances should have upheld the code.

I was uncomfortable. My left pinky kept twitching, and I couldn't stop it. I cleared my throat to get the attention of one of the men in the front, but neither spared me a glance. And that pissed me off.

They didn't give me a sedative that put me to sleep, which means they don't care that I know where they are taking me; that they just care about the fight I would've put up.

Sometime during the ride, I actually did drift off to sleep, and only woke when suddenly I was being pulled from the vehicle and thrown over someone's shoulder. I found I could move again, and promptly began to kick and scream.

The person carrying me paid me no mind, and instead continued to walk at a steady pace while I hit his back and wiggled around on his shoulder.

"Let me go!" I screeched.

The man beneath me laughed, before going up some stairs. A door opened and warm air hit my backside, and then my face as we walked in. The man set me down on my feet, and I tried to make a move to the door. A simple hand on my head stopped me in place, and not for the first time in my life, I cursed being born short and a girl.

"Tell Don we're back," the mountain beside me said to a girl in a sickening maids outfit. She giggled and danced off. I rolled my eyes, and was grabbed on the upper arm and led to some sort of a sitting room down the hallway from the door. There was a double door to one side, which led to what I suspected to be the Boss' office. It held three couches, two recliners, and one stiff back chair. Bookcases and paintings lined the walls, and a fireplace took up the majority of one.

It took maybe a half hour of me complaining, and staring at walls, before the doors to the room swung open and a frail looking old man walked in. Confidence coated him, and I thought him to be the Don.

"Michael. What have you brought us now?" The old man questioned the mountain who was standing somewhere behind me.

"Where is Alessandro?" The mountain growled.

The old man waved his hand, "He's off on the mate hunt; has been for a few months now. When he left he made me standing Boss. Why? What is this?" The old man walked close to me, and looked me over. "Human?"

The mountain moved to put an arm in front of me, as if protecting me from the old man, "I will only speak to Alessandro regarding the girl. I will wait for his return, here."

The old man clucked his tongue and took a step back, "What of the human? We can't just have her running around."

Michael the mountain laughed, "She is not human."

My eyebrows drew together immediately, "Whoa there, crazies." I attempted to stand from my uncomfortable chair, but mountain man pushed me back down.

The old man sniffed the air around me obnoxiously before he shook his head, "Sure does smell human."

Offended, I went to stand, but once again was pushed back down. "She isn't. I've been watching her for some time. Along with our family to the west... and north... and east."
