Time was nothing in what I now deem the Basement. They never turned the lights off, anywhere. So you didn't know if it was night, or day, or how long you had been there.

Meals came at odd times- no set times, no schedules... they just came. Once I got two meals at once, and upon questioning through the door, I got no answer.

I ate them both.

Sleep was a hard thing to come by. The noises in the room never quit, and if one did- another picked back up. When I first got here, there seemed to be two completely normal people.

A man, and a woman. The woman would cry and ask if he was okay, and he would reply and tell her there was nothing to worry about, that they would soon learn their mistake and let them out together, and that they would be on their way back to their children in no time. I knew she didn't believe him, and half the time I don't think he even believed himself.

One time, after a short nap, I woke to her screams. She couldn't hear her husband, or mate as she screamed over and over again.

"Where is he? What have you monsters done to my mate? Where is he! I can feel him, you know! He's here! Let him talk!"

Over and over she would scream, and I would listen from my spot in the corner, knees to my chest. Head resting back on the wall, I listened to her bawl for hours, her voice growing hoarse.

And then I heard him, underneath all her screams. It was a gurgle, really, nothing more than a wet moan; like he was attempting to form words, but just couldn't, and something wet was in his throat.

It came to me during her bouts of screams. I had been staring at my still bloodied shirt, and it came to me and a light bulb went off. She hadn't heard the wet moaning, but on my way in- I saw what they did to the men in here. The 'monsters'.

They had cut his tongue out.

I coughed and cleared my throat, about to speak my first words in what was probably days; "Lady."

My voice seemed hoarse from under-use. She didn't hear me, and I tried again louder, before I realized she wouldn't be able to hear me over her own wailing.

Growling loudly to myself, something that had become somewhat of a habit, I stood and with all my might growled out, "Lady!"

The wailing stopped, and sniffling took its place. All background noise seemed to vanish, and for once the Basement was quiet. I didn't take long to ponder this as I began to pace. "Your husband-"

"Mate!" She wailed, before quieting down and a warning growl from my throat.

"Your mate is alive, and he's still here, if you took a second to stop and listen instead of wailing and killing my eardrums, you would hear him." I paused, and waited for her reaction.

I called her reaction before she gave me one, adamantly saying, "No! He must be somewhere else! He isn't here! He would reply to me!"

I waited in my cell for her to quit before I opened my mouth again. "Listen, I am sure all that is true, you two seemed very in love. But the thing is- they've cut his tongue out."

I waited for her reaction and found she surprisingly had none for me.

And then she did. Her wailing was ten-fold what it had been and I slapped my hands over my ears and growled threateningly. Her wails turned into whimpers and denials, before I told her, "Listen."

Immediately it once again became quiet, and I imagined all the inhabitants of the basement cocking their heads like dogs, trying to get a grasp of the noise I was talking about.

And there it was, a low- wet wheeze. A moan that sounded gurgled, and the lady gasped. "Baby?"

I rolled my eyes as she began to talk to the gurgle, and realized I had set myself up for more torturous crying and moaning.

When she began to talk again, I saw figures pass my tiny window, and rushed to it. They were walking down the hallway, two men. Both had guns strapped to their backs, and looked ready for business.

Going back to pacing, I listened to the woman coo to the man, and faintly heard a door opening. The man started gurgling louder, and a sense of dread filled me. The woman was questioning him, and without remorse I said aloud, "They are going to kill him."

She began crying before the shots were fired, and I closed my eyes, "Buon' anima."

(Rest his soul)

Her crying continued for what was probably hours before she gasped out, "You bitch!"

Taken aback, I looked up from where I had been doodling nothing on the floor, "Excuse you?"

"You killed him! My mate was perfectly fine until you opened your mouth and told me about him!"

I rolled my eyes and chose to ignore her, not taking her accusation to heart. She didn't like this, and continued her verbal onslaught. "Can you hear me, skank! I will find you! I will kill you!"

I chucked, and that infuriated her. I could hear others groaning under the sound of her voice, and decided to end it. "Listen, lady. I did not kill your husband. I did not put that gun to his head and pull the trigger. I did not stick you guys in here. I am not the reason you are crying alone in your cell. The rest of us are here just like you. I am sure you are not the only one who has lost someone dear to you," I paused, thinking of my family and Dominick. "We aren't the only ones in here. When I walked in, I was not blindfolded, and I could easily see ten other men in here, who I am sure are just as tired of your wailing as I am. Buck up, lady. You want revenge then do it at your own risk, but you're probably never getting out of here."

After that moment, she was quiet, and the rest of the Basement was silent. You could hear a pin drop, even from the hallway if you strained hard enough. Sighing I sat back, and closed my eyes.

Soaking in the quiet, I wandered off into the crevices of my own mind. Running memories and schemes through my head, I was interrupted when a male voice I had never heard before spoke out, "I pledge to give you, Alpha Luna, my life if it came to that. I pledge to stand by you through thick and thin, to fight beside you, grieve beside you, and die beside you. I pledge to bring my own children into your pack, and I pledge to join any future children I might have with my mate into your pack. I pledge my faith and life to you, Alpha Luna."

Frowning, something began to burn inside of my body. It felt like my heart, and my mind were both going up in flames as new voice after new voice pledge themselves to Alpha Luna. Writhing on the floor, I began to seize up, fire burning inside of me. Voice after voice, even gurgle after moan, different pledge after different pledge until finally the woman spoke. "I pledge to give you, Alpha Luna, my life if it came to that. I pledge to stand by you through thick and thin, to fight beside you, grieve beside you, and die beside you. I pledge to bring my own children into your pack. I pledge my faith and life, and the life of my children to you, Alpha Luna."

The fire died, and I was left panting on the ground. Voices sounded in my head, and I put names to voices, voices to faces I had never seen before. Gasping, I sat up.

"What the fuck was that?"
