Here In The Woods

*Trigger Warning*

I sit there in my room, unable to sleep, unable to move practically. Why, why now? Today was great, we went to the park, which was fun, tomorrow I'm going spend time with my dad, which is going to be fun. So why do I feel this way?

I sigh, which triggers a few tears to roll down my cheek. I quickly wipe them off. Come on, you know you want to. A voice echoes. I ignore it, knowing I can't.

But you have them with you, you can do it.

No, no I can't. I promised myself I wouldn't.

But you promised me nothing.

More tears begin to fall. I want to, but I can't. I haven't done it in so long, but that was for a reason.

No it wasn't, you had no one to impress.

I can't take it anymore, only a few sentences, but it was enough; I grab for my blades. Quietly, I go in the bathroom, not wanting to wake up Dad. Turning on the light, I'm blinded by it.

Come on, quite stalling already. I'm getting impatient.

"Shut up. Shut up. Shut up." I whisper. "I'm doing it, just—"

Just what? You're out of excuses, no go.

I do as it says, and make the first cut on my arm. A rush of happiness, a kind that you I haven't experience in a while. Soon enough, I make another, and another and another and another. At this point, my arm is covered in blood, and is stinging like hell, but I don't care. All I can do is stare at it, stare at the beautiful tragedy that I have done. "Aw shit."

What are you 'Aw shitting' for? You did want you wanted to do.

I sigh, conflicted in my own head. I clean up my arm, thankfully no blood got on the floor, and quietly leave the bathroom. Going back to my room, I check the time, 3:15, I can still catch some sleep.

I wake up about 6 hours later and start making my way downstairs. Dads not up yet, which doesn't surprise me at all honestly. Looking around for some food, I stumble across some cereal boxes in cabinets. Now, I'm not tall, and the top shelf and I are not the closest of people. But, the chair is. Grabbing it, I carry it over to the cabinet, and stand on it.

I manage to get the cereal, still having to go on my tip toes. Damn, why are these shelves so high, Dad's not that tall either. As I grab for the cereal, I hear a voice. "What are you doing?" I turn to see Dad half awake, half asleep.

"Getting food."

He stands there for a second. "Okay." He walks back upstairs, man he's out of it. I turn my attention back to the cereal, and finally manage to get the cereal box. Now I have to find the bowls.

"Hey Dad!" I yell, hoping he's still awake.

"Yes?" He yells back.

"Where are the bowls?" I hear him laughing.

"They're in the cabinet next to the cereal."

"Thanks." I get back on the chair and grab a bowl. Eventually, I'm able to eat breakfast. Cleaning up, Dad comes downstairs.

"Hey kiddo." He makes his way towards me, noticing the cereal box is still in my hand. "Please?"

Giving him the box he smiles. "Thank you." I hope off the chair while he gets a bowl. "Go get dressed."

I go upstairs and pick out a black sweatshirt and a pair of jeans. Heading back downstairs, Dad finished his breakfast, and is looking at his phone. "Leggo."

On our way to the car, I see him smile. Not just the happy smile, the smile where you should go ahead with caution.

After a couple minutes of driving, he does it again. "Okay, what are you smiling about?"

"You'll see." He turns his attention back to the road. Over the past week or so, I've gotten better with cars. I've learned to calm myself down a bit, but it will still creep up on me. "You alright?" I nod. "Good, because we're here. Close your eyes."

"Okay?" I close my eyes and he helps me out the car. He guides me to what I think is a building.

"Open."
