After Hannah and I had our little volleyball net accident, Liam wanted us to have more distance between us. It's not like we did anything inappropriate. It's not my fault Hannah decided to be nice and actually help me. Instead of letting me lay there and struggle, but it's not like we were rolling around in the sand makin' babies in front of everyone. I personally think Liam was overreacting, but whatever. I respect his decision.
Paul decided that it would it would be a good idea to play beach football, with the people we were playing volleyball with. Our little game, exploded in to practically the whole beach coming to play too. Everyone decided to play except for Liam. He wanted to show that he was more mature than the rest of us. His idea of that is to cook dinner for all of us. Liam isn't the best cook in the kitchen either. He burns toast, and over cooks spaghetti. How he manages it, I will never know.
I was about to throw the ball to some kid from one of the houses over, when I look to my right and I see Hannah, AJ, and a bunch of other girls tanning. Now seeing about ten girls tanning in nothing but string bikinis, and being an 18 year old boy you can get a little distracted. Me being the clumsy person I am, I threw the ball, went running without moving my vision from the girls, I tripped over a log set around the fire pit, and smashed my face in to some random guys crotch. He then moved, and when my face hit the sand, I ended up getting a bloody nose. Randy being as stupid as he is decided to make a smart comment that went a little something like this.
"Wow Matt. First you had the hots for Hannah, but all along you were actually gay, and didn't tell us?!?" That made everyone share a little laugh.
"Easy there bartender. You could've just told us. We would've understood." Hannah said.
I ignored all of them, and went in the house to get a towel for my nose. Why must I be such a klutz?! I don't think they will ever let me live this one down.
After I got my nose to stop bleeding, I threw my towel in the laundry, and went to my room. I stayed in there on my bed for who knows how long before there was a knock on my door.
"Go away! You don't want to get caught with a gay person do ya?"
"Now that is no way to treat a lady."
"I don't want to see anyone." I could tell it was Hannah. She's the only one that cares about me enough to come check on me.
"If you won't let me in, then I'll come in anyway."
Before I knew it, Hannah was standing by my bed with a plate of food in her hand.
"Thanks for the food."
"No problem bartender. Now explain to Hannah what's bothering you."
"All I've done since I got here is humiliate myself in some shape or form. Today is by far the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Why does this always happen to me?!"
"Matt that's who you are. You're our clumsy Mattyboy. Just ignore Randy and Paul. They're stupid anyway. It's not worth hiding over."
"Yeah I see your point. Wait, did you just call me Matt?"
"It's your name isn't it? What else would I call you?"
"Well it's just that since we've been here, you've only called me bartender. I didn't even think you knew my name."
"There was your first mistake. I always give people weird nicknames, but that doesn't mean I don't know their actual name. I've heard the other guys say it enough. You learn things pretty fast around here."
"Thanks again for the food Hannah."
"No problem bartender."
She gave me a genuine friendly hug, before exiting my room. Maybe I don't need a girlfriend right now. What I need is a friend, and I now have one. She went against her brother for me? That girl got some balls now. She is one tough girl that Hannah.
Hiding isn't the answer to everything. I need to go out there with my head held high. I know who I am, and that's all that matters. Who cares what they think. I am a brick wall that can't be broken down.
I . AM. ME. And there's nothing wrong with that.
I put the towel that was now covered in my nose blood on my bed and walked out the door. It struck me as odd that Hannah actually said something nice to me instead of flirtaciously teasing me. But then again I haven't had a lot of conversations with the girl and I barely know her.
I walked out and everyone was eating burgers. "Welcome back gay boy!" Randy said loudly between chews. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. "Hey, Matt," Randy said when he noticed I was ignoring him. "What do balls taste like?"
"I don't know, ask your mother," I retorted. Everyone did the whole "ooh" thing at my comment. Randy's face went red.
"Not cool bro, leave the mama jokes out of this."
"Whatever, hand me a beer."
