I pressed the ice pack to my aching cheek, flinching at the coldness. I sat on one side of the living room in the recliner, icing my jaw and holding in tears. Hannah sat across from me on the couch. She held her head in her hands and refused to look up. Liam stood in between us, pacing back and forth. He looked angry, upset, murderous, and dare I say... hurt.
He looked up at me with sad blue eyes. The same eyes his sister had. He noticed how swollen my jaw had gotten in a matter of minutes and knitted his brows together in concern. "You ok?" he asked, giving me a slight head nod.
I gave him a dumb look. "Am I ok? Am I ok?! You just hit me! No, I am not ok," I barked.
Liam turned around and looked at Hannah who still wouldn't look up. He sighed and ran a hand through his blonde hair. "Hannah can I talk to Matt real quick? Alone?"
Hannah's head shot up and she narrowed her eyes at Liam. "Talk about what, Liam? Talk about how it was me who kissed him? Talk about it how it was me that made all the moves? Talk about how you don't want me to get hurt by him even though it was me doing everything! Huh? Is that what you're going to talk about? Because if so, no. No you can't talk to him real quick alone. I'm not going anywhere."
"Fine! Fine Hannah, stay here. I have no problem yelling at the both of you." Liam inhaled deeply. He pinched the bridge of his nose and sat quietly for a moment. I gave Hannah a confused look, and she returned it.
"You two don't belong together! Jesus, Matt! She's still in highschool! And come on, Hannah! He's my friend. A no good, man-whore!"
"I resent that!"
"Shut up! Just shut up Matt. You're going to listen to me talk. It's my turn. Hannah is my sister and I told you no. But what did you do? You take her up to your room and get her half naked in your bed. Only God knows what would've happened if I showed up ten minutes later!"
Hannah started to choke. "Liam! It's bad enough you walked in on it please don't make us re-live it!"
Liam pointed at his sister. "You shut up too! First thing in the morning you are going back to mom's and then I won't have to deal with you anymore. I can't do this Hannah. I can't keep having to look after you. I don't know how to and I can't." He sat down on the coffee table and put his head in his hands.
"I'm not going anywhere," Hannah said, standing up and walking towards Liam. "Please, Liam, I don't want to go home yet. You don't have to keep looking out for me. Yes, I am in highschool. But that doesn't matter because you just got out of there. So don't go acting like you're my elder. Because your'e not. You're my older brother. Older by a year!"
"And don't tell me that you want me to stop seeing Hannah either. Because I'm sorry, best friends or not, I like her, and you can't tell me who I can and can't date," I added. Hannah gave me a small smile. "Liam... you know me. You know I'm not a 'man-whore', you know I don't hurt girls, and you know I'm a good guy. Why are you so against it?"
"Because that's my baby sister!"
"Baby by a year, Liam, let it go," Hannah said. She rolled her eyes. "Gosh quit being a drama queen. Apologize to Matt for hitting his adorable face, apologize to me because you walked in on a very bad moment, and let's go get some ice cream or something I'm in the mood for something sweet."
Liam stood up and kept his head down. Now, Liam is a tough guy, and I don't think I've ever seen him cry... before now. It was obvious, really, but I could tell he was trying to hide it. So I didn't comment. Why was he being like this? You'd think he'd be happy I was with Hannah, considering he knows my intentions and knows I'm a good guy. But no. Instead he'd rather hit me.
