July 31st.
What a sad day.
I was sitting on my bed, staring at their picture. A part of me twinged at the fact that I may never see them, and it left me feeling depressed to know I was in orphange - especially on my 11th birthday. I looked exactly like my mom, the hair, the eyes and ever our face ship was similar.. I hoped i had my dad's personality.
I didn't even know their names.
Suddenly I heard a bang at my door and jumped in shock to find it was the housekeeper. She absolutely loathed me - like everyone else here. Glaring at me she said to make my bed and clean up. I did as I was told, reluctantly.
I opened my window, so i could see the sun. It was pretty for something that could blind you if you looked at it to long. Suddenly there was another knock on the door and I jumped.
"I'm cleaning, I'm cleaning!" I yelled autumotically, quickly getting up and walking over to the small bed.
The door opened again, but it wasn't the housekeeper; there at my doorway stood a tall man, he had a long white beard, blue bright eyes, and an air of importance.
"Hello, Mrs.Evans." He said calmly before he walked in, "I hope you don't mind me intruding, your caretaker let me in."
I didn't think I had a choice as for if I minded, "Oh it's alright, who are you?"
He smiled, "I am, Albus Dumbledor, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
I looked at him, "Witchcraft?"
He nodded serenly and said, "You, my dear, are a witch."
"What?" The words left my mouth before I could stop them, and confusion flew through my brain before I understood. All those strange things that happened to me were because of magic!
"I can do magic?" I said excitedly.
"Yes, and at our school you will learn to control your magic and harness your power, if you choose to accept the offer anyways." He said, as he looked at me and I got the strange feeling of being examined.
He looked at my for a moment before he asked, "Where'd you get that locket?"
Glancing down at my locket, I held it protectively as I said, "My parents left it for me."
"May I see it?" He asked, his blue eyes twinkling.
"Why?" I asked, protective of the tiny thing.
He looked at me for a moment before he said, "There's magic radiating from it, it's very powerful magic."
"Oh. alright then." I said, confused, but sastified with his answer. I handed the locket to him. He opened and peered inside.
He looked at me and then murmured something to himself that sounded alot like "Why didn't they tell me."
He sighed. "There's something i need to tell you, Rose."
"What?" I asked.
"Rose, this man and women in this picture, do you know who they are?" He asked.
"My parents?" I said, uncertainly.
"Yes, James and Lily Potter."
"Those were their names? Did you know them?" I asked eagerly.
He looked at me with sad eyes, "Yes."
"Well, where are they?" I exclaimed.
"Their - their dead." He said sadly.
I felt my smile falter, but I quickly regain my composure, "How did they die?"
"A dark wizard Rose, they were murdered while trying to save you and your brother." He said.
My face lit up, "Brother!?"
"Yes, Rose, you have a brother, he's actually your twin, if my assumptions are correct and they usually are. " He said, in a happier tone now.
I smiled, "That's amazing! When can i meet him? Is he going to Hogwarts too? Why haven't I met him?" I asked in a ramble of questions.
"You and Harry -
"His name's Harry? I love that name!" I said cutting off Dumbledore.
He chuckled. "Yes, Harry. You'll be able to meet him soon. He is going to Hogwarts and you haven't met him because, well Rose no one knew about you. You see, Harry Potter is famous in the wizarding world- although he does not know it. Remember that Dark Wizard I told you about? Well he went to go kill Harry, he failed and left Harry with a scar. Thus Harry becoming a legend in our world and a hero."
"Oh." I said, absorbing all the information he had just given me.
He smiled down at me, "I think that is enough information for one day, Rose."
I nodded, unable to speak. My mind was whirling around the idea of meeting my brother!
"Ah- Rose, one more thing." Dumbledore said suddenly.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Do not tell Harry who you are." He said, seriously.
"What! Why cant I tell him?" I was hurt, i had a brother and he couldn't know, it was my once chance at a family.
"To protect you both, I beg of you not to speak a word about this to anyone." He said seriously.
"Alright." I agreed, reluctantly.
He handed me a letter. It told me I had been accepted to Hogwarts, and a long list of things I would need.
"Uh, professor, where do i get all this?"
"Diagon Alley, of course."
"Where?" I asked confused.
"Someone will come in a couple of days to take you there, okay?" He asked.
"Okay." I said happily.
"Oh and Rose?"
"Yes?"
"Happy Birthday!" He said, smiling.
I grinned, "Thank you, sir."
He handed me a sack of money, "I took that out of your account at Gringotts, it's for all of your school supplies." I took it and started to examine the large pieces of gold.
Before I could even ask him what in the world was Gringotts - i realized he already left.
