I have vague memory's from my life before I went on my first mission trip. There were my parents telling me not to go to church because religion causes too much drama. There was my dog always there on my lap when I read the bible. All inside the small house in the small neighborhood I used to call mine. My parents weren't big on the whole respect thing. They still believed that kids were there to do chores and make dinner. My dog was really the only one I had on my side. I would always walk to church on Sunday mornings. I remember the day I found out about the mission trip to Mexico. I instantly knew it was what I was called to do. I started raising money for the trip right when I got home. That was also the day I left my parents. They kept my dog saying it was theirs because it was in their house. I moved in with my youth leader. Now I have my own apartment a block away from the church.
We ate dinner in the clearing by the woods. All three of us had enough food to last us two days in our backpacks. It was supposed to just be extra since we were supposed to be at the camp before nightfall. With my backpack in the woods we only had enough food for one day. I ate an even amount of food from each backpack. We knew the Isis men would come back soon looking for us. We just didn't know how soon. To be safe we started moving again right after dinner. It wasn't long before we fell upon another make shift road. Everywhere we've been so far looks deserted. I had a gut feeling that we would run into civilization soon. I just hoped they weren't with Isis. Jay, Savannah, and I didn't speak much while we walked along the make shift road. There wasn't much to talk about to be honest. We just kept going along the road. We were close to another forest when I heard something. It was a faint sound, too small to know what it was or where it came from. I slowly moved toward it. Savannah and Jay followed me until I could make out what the sound was. It was a voice. I couldn't tell if it was a female or male voice yet. The three of us moved closer until the camp came into view. They spotted us before we saw them though. They were already firing bullets at us by the time I realized they were with Isis. I don't know why I didn't run into the woods that were just behind the camp, that would have been the smart thing to do. Instead I ran back down the make shift road. Savannah was following me. Jay however was aiming his gun. Then a bullet went into his arm. He ducked into the woods. The Isis people then noticed Savannah and I watching. They ran towards us. I wasn't sure if I wanted to run into the woods and closer to the men to try to find Jay or run away from the men and down the road. Before I decided Savannah grabbed my arm and ran down the road. I wasn't thinking straight, I didn't realized there was a chance of never seeing Jay again by making this decision. I just kept running. The Isis people were gaining speed though. I really didn't want to fire my gun again. Jay had missed the Isis people when he shot back at them and ended up getting shot himself. I decided to just keep running. Savannah though had a different idea. She started running in a zig zag line. The Isis people got confused and stopped running for a second. Savannah looked stupid but this way it was harder to shoot at her. I decided to do the same thing. I ran to the left then the right. I continued this until we were back to the clearing. By then the Isis people had given up. Well not really given up so much as putting us on hold. They would come back later to kill us when they had more time and more bullets. Savannah and I knew they were going to come back so we kept moving again before stopping to sleep. We knew Isis had people in front of us and behind us in camps. We also knew Jay was in the woods in front of us. Savannah wanted to go to the left or right. I wanted to find Jay. I won the argument, there's strength in numbers. We went to the woods Jay was hiding in and started to look around. The sun went down and then we couldn't see anything. We decided to sleep in the woods for the night and continue to look for Jay in the morning.
