Chapter 3
Lysander's POV
Mr. Klein finally let us out after an hour. He seemed as excited as we were to get out of the silent, dull classroom. Arie and I sprinted down the hall and burst through the double doors of the school. We went down the stairs two at a time and raced through the school's parking lot, yelling and whooping for no apparent reason. As we reached the park 5 minutes down the road fromthe school, we paused, panting and laughing. A couple girls turned to look at us and I couldn't help but wink at them, making them look at the ground and blush. I smirked.
"Man, detention on the first day." Arie chuckled, sprawling on the closest bench. "That's a new record."
I leaned against the tree next to the bench and sighed, closing my eyes. The girl's face involuntarily popped up in my head and I groaned in frustration. Why couldn't I get her out of my head!
"What?" Arie asked, hearing me groan.
I shook my head, eyes still closed. "Nothing."
"Liar. Don't tell me you're thinking about that girl." I heard the laughter in his voice. I opened my eyes and glared at him. He smirked at me. Damn, I hated that he knew me so well.
I sighed, giving in. "I have never thought about a girl this long before."
"It's only been about three hours."
"Exactly."
"Dude, you got issues."
"No need to tell me. I'm very well aware of them."
Arie laughed before slapping me on the shoulder. "Come on, dude. Let's get to Paradise before the other guys flay us alive for not showing."
I nodded and we walked back to the school parking lot. We each got into our own car and made our way over.
Paradise had been a forgotten rundown house at the edge of the neighborhood until I stumbled upon it about two years ago. I'd already been with the Big Dipper, excluding Logan and the twins who hadn't joined until about half a year later. We had desperately needed a place to practice our dance, especially since we needed a new routine every other week if we wanted to keep our place at Marino's. Paradise hadn't belonged to anyone and the owner had sold it to us for a really cheap price. With some help from Mrs. Norrington, an interior decorator, we got the place cleaned up and nicely furnished.
It was two stories. The first floor has the usual kitchen, living room, and a couple rooms which we turned into small studios. On the second floor we had two large rooms. It use to be a four bedroom but we knocked the walls down and added mirrors, a CD holder, and a shelf to hold the stereo in each room. We also ripped the carpet off and added wooden floors. It was easier to move around in.
I loved it here. It was a place to forget about the past, school, and life for a moment. Jason and I pulled up next to the curb and hopped out. I could already hear the music coming from the second floor. We entered and dropped our bags on the floor before making our way upstairs.
The boys randomly busted out dance moves when we opened the door. "You guys are out early." Logan looked at us through the mirror.
"Klein couldn't take it anymore." Arie explained. The boys chuckled.
Getting down into business, I flipped through the CD holder until I found the CD I was searching for. I slid it into the stereo and hit play. Cham Pain's Off the Wall started to play. We warmed up to the song until it ended and Nelly's 1000 Stacks started to play. We went through the routine a few times before stopping the music to add a few details here and there. Damn, it was great to just let the music roll over me and forget about everything.
I smiled.
"Dude, stop smiling like that," Tyler said, "it's freaking me out."
"Don't tell me you're still thinking about that chick." Arie raised an eyebrow, looking amused.
"Yeah, cause I'd smile thinking about that." I snorted.
"I smile thinking about it," Shane snickered, "she's the first girl who hasn't fallen at your feet since puberty hit."
I growled at him. "You guys are enjoying this way too much."
"We like to watch you suffer," Quinn threw in.
"I've noticed," I snapped. They snickered. "Seriously, why can't you guys just drop it?"
"Now what kind of fun would that be?" Logan said, pushing away from the mirror. "A new hot girl making the bad boy speechless on her first day? We'll be giving you crap about that till the day we die."
"Joy," I rolled my eyes. "Remind me to run you guys over with my car tomorrow."
"Duly noted." The boys laughed and I sighed. I flipped through the CD again and we warmed down.

Corlene's POV
When I arrived home, Clint hadn't come back from work yet and I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. Sometimes, I hated that he owned a music store. He was constantly at work and I never got to spend much time with him. I know it sounded selfish, but I couldn't help it. Though I was lucky in some ways because some people don't even get to see their uncles as often as I do. I mean, I was living under his roof after all.
I look the stairs up to my room and checked my watch. A few more hours, I thought to myself. With no homework to do I decided to visit the animal shelter that I worked part time at. Today was supposed to be my day off but, eh, what the heck, I have time. I grabbed my keys and made my way downstairs.
I parked my bike and dismounted it. I couldn't help but stroke him and smile. Yeah yeah, call me weird for stroking a freaking motorbike but Hades wasn't just any motorbike. He was a black BMW R1150RS with red highlights on the side. My brothers had gotten it for me on my 18th birthday. I loved it to death.
After giving Hades one last stroke, I made my way to the entrance of the shelter. I pushed open the door and was greeted by Dylan, one of the guys who worked there. He was a cute blue eyes college jock. Unfortunately for the girls, he was gay. But that didn't stop the two of us from flirting with each other.
"Wassup, sexy?" I greeted him, smiling.
"Hey, girl," he relied, returning my smile, "isn't it your day off?"
I pouted, looking hurt. "What, you didn't miss me?" I gasped dramatically and put my hand on my chest. "You hurt me, love."
He rolled his eyes. "I'm not going to even bother."
I just chuckled. "No homework, empty house. Need I say more?" I explained.
"Nope," he shook his head, "but there are new puppies in the back that need some attention." He winked at me.
"You know, you could just say, 'Go away, Core, you're annoying me'. I promise I won't get offended."
"Get outta here, Core."
I gasped a second time and burst into sobs. I looked over at him and wiped away a fake tear. "Dylan doesn't love me!" I shouted. Luckily, no one was in the shelter at the moment. Dylan got out of his chair and advanced toward me. Laughing, I quickly disappeared through the door that leads to the back. I made my way to the end of the hall where we kept all the stray or injured dogs and I pushed through the door. Nobody was in the room. I shrugged and moved through the crates. At the back of the room are where we kept the puppies and I rushed to the crate that wasn't there on Friday. Inside were three adorable Golden Retriever puppies.
"Oh my goodness, you guys are so cute, yes you are!" I cooed at them. I unlocked the crate and one by one I carried to the play center. It's basically just a pin with dog toys inside it.
For the past hour, I played with them until I had to go. After I put them back in their crate, I exited the building. Not before throwing a smartass comment at Dylan's direction, who just laughed it off. I mounted Hades and rode home. I hopped into the shower and took a quick rinse. After throwing on some simple clothes and my combat boots, I rode my bike over to the other side of the neighborhood.
