Chapter 8
Corlene's POV
He didn't have a chance to answer.
"All right, guys," Mr. Johnson started, "I want you to take 5 minutes and get to know your partner. Then each and every one of you will introduce him or her to the class." I heard groans throughout the room.
I on the other hand, was excited. This was going to be interesting.
Mr. Johnson held up the hand and room got silent. He checked his watched, "Your five minutes starts now."
I ripped a page out of my notebook and held it out to him. He took it, looking somewhat surprised. I guess someone wasn't expecting this. But he should know by now that I'm full of surprises. "Write down something that you did this summer and I'll do the same." He nodded, but the mischievous glint in his eyes didn't escape my attention.
I finished writing my paper and passed it to Lysander as the first introductions started. I wasn't paying attention to it though.
Lysander had just passed me his piece of paper.

Lysander's POV
So, the things I wrote weren't even half true. Sue me. Actually, most of them were about the rumors spreading around about me. But I just wanted to throw her off.
Once again, I was disappointed. I watched as she finished reading it and shook her head, bursting into silent laughter. God, did nothing faze this girl.
I looked down to read what she wrote. After scanning it, I learned she mostly just worked for the summer. Besides moving and transferring to this school from Lake Creek High, which happens to be Baker Hill High's sister school, she didn't really do anything else. I looked at her. She was staring straight ahead with a calm expression on her face. A million questions popped into my head, startling me.
Why did you move? Why to this school? What happened to her parents and who does she live with now?
My thoughts returned to last night and I found myself apologizing to her, something I hardly ever did.
"Hey," I started, "about last night. I didn't mean to upset you or-"
She cut me off with a wave of her hand. "Don't worry about it. You didn't know." She finished calmly, but her tone told me to drop it. So I did, but I continued to stare at her.
She really was beautiful. Especially since the sun was shining on her now, making her sun kissed skin glow. Today she was wearing knee high boots, leggings, and a simple black tank top. Her hair was pushed to one side and was kept in place by a dark green head band. I noticed she didn't wear any makeup. But she didn't need it and apparently, she knew it also. I smiled slightly.
"Miss Morano?" Mr. Johnson's deep voice snapped me out of my thoughts as he addressed Corlene.
My partner looked up and shot him a killer smile. "Yes?"
"Would you please do the honor of introducing your science partner?"
She looked over at me. "It would be my pleasure." Then smirking she stood up and picked up the piece of paper I had written on.
Oh, shit, no.
"My partner, and I use that term loosely, is the so-called bad boy of this school, Lysander Blake." She said, while patting my shoulder then raised the piece of paper, "This summer he went through his usual routine of hanging out with his crew, harassing and excuse my French, fucking young girls, and touring the insides of the local jail, if you know what I mean." She paused for effect. "Then when his drug buddies would bail him out, he'd spend the rest of the day hanging out with the top drug lords in the state." She crumbled up the paper and threw it over her shoulder. "But seriously, who are we kidding, what kind of drug lord would want to hang out with a hotheaded high school senior?" Oh no, she didn't.
