Chapter 5
Corlene’s POV
When I pulled up at the house, there were cars parked all along the driveway. Not that I’m surprised, Casey had called me telling her son’s friends were gonna be over. I dismounted my bike, strutted to the front door, and rang the bell. I heard a bit of shouting before the door was swung open. I was met face to face with the last person I wanted to see today.
Lysander Blake. Shit.
He looked as surprised as I was which made me feel a bit better. We both quickly recovered. “Hmm, first giving me a detention slip then following me to my house. I think it’s safe to say you’re falling in love me there, Corlene.”
I hide my surprise that he knew my name, but then again Tyler West was in my computer class. So, why wouldn’t he? I straightened. “You might want to shut your mouth before you embarrass yourself even further, pretty boy.” I suggested, before walking around him. I heard him follow me into the kitchen where I greeted his mother. “Hey, Casey,” I smiled at her.
“Hey, sweetie,” she returned my smile.
“Hold up.” Lysander interrupted, looking from his mother to me. “Is there something going on here I don’t know?”
Casey and I exchanged looks. Was he really that slow?
“Honey, this is Sophia’s—” She was cut off by a loud squeal.
“CORLENE!!” The little blonde princess came running into the kitchen. I opened my arms and she immediately jumped into them.
“Hey, Princess!” I gave her a hard hug and kissed her cheek. “How’s my favorite girl?” She squealed with delight when I lifted her up and twirled her around, just the way she liked it.
“Wait, hold up,” everyone turned to look at Lysander again who still hadn’t gotten it. “You,” he pointed at me, with Sophia still in my arms, “are Sophia’s tutor?”
I cocked my head to one side. “Kinda slow, aren’t you?” I set Sophia down and looked over at him. We had a mini-staring contest before Casey broke it up.
“Okay, wish I could stay and chat but I’m gonna be late for my meeting.” She rushed around grabbing her purse and keys. “Bye! Be good. Oh, Lysander?” She turned toward her son with a warning glance. “Remember what I said before.”
With that, she exited the kitchen. I heard her call out another goodbye and I heard a muffled chorus of, “Bye,” coming from the living room. I assumed it was ‘her son’s friends’. We heard her slam the door shut.
Lysander and I exchanged glances. I looked away from him then and turned to Sophia. She had run to the window and waved at her mom’s moving car. She continued to stare until her mom turned a corner and disappeared. She then turned to me. “She’s gone!” She squealed.
I shook my head and chuckled. Gosh, this kid.
“So you didn’t bother to mention that you were tutoring my baby sister?” I jerked a bit when Lysander spoke. I completely forgot he was here.
I shrugged. “I’ve only known you for over 10 hours,” I replied, defensively. “Besides, I didn’t know she was your sister.”
He opened his mouth to reply, but he was interrupted. “Hey, Lysander? Can the boys and I get a coke or something? We’re all dying of thirst.” We both swiveled our head toward the intruder. Tyler stood there, mouth open, shocked. “Corlene? What the hell?!” He practically shouted.
