Chapter 7
Corlene's POV
After yesterday's incident, I was dreading to go back to school, though it was only the second day. But what did cheer me up was little miss talkative Annarina. Only I made a big mistake telling her about bumping into the playboy at his house. For some reason, she found it hilarious.
"Dude, just shut up already!" She's been laughing for 5 minutes straight and I was worried she would just die right there and then from no oxygen. But then again, it would shut her up...
"Seriously, Rina, would you quit?" I tried one more time. "It's not even that funny!"
She sobered up enough to answer me. "Oh yes it is! I just can't get over the fact that you passed a level that he couldn't. I mean seriously!" She burst out laughing all over again.
I groaned and rolled my eyes.
We were making our way to math class. I couldn't stop from thinking about the little connection Lysander and I had last night. Even after the comment about my parents. My heart clenched and I pushed the thought away. No need to have a breakdown in the middle of the hall.
I'm strong and confident.
With that thought in mind, I looped my arm through Annarina's and marched to class. When we entered I could feel everyone's eyes on me. I held my head high. I looked to the back and noticed Arie and Lysander, heads bent, whispering and laughing. I hid a smile. Didn't want to get detention again, I see. I caught Lysander's eye before sliding into my chair.
"He's still watching you." Annarina observed.
"I'll bet." I muttered.
The bell rang and Miss Miller arrived. She smiled. "Well, I'm glad to see Mr. Blake and Mr. Chulan have arrived early. Didn't enjoy detention I take it."
I snickered, along with a few others. I leaned back as Miss Miller got to work. By the end of class, she'd given us enough homework to last us a week. I sighed. Tough teacher. "She's trying to kill us." I heard Annarina mutter to me. I smirked a bit.
"Ya think?" We both made our way to the door along with everyone else.
"Oh, Miss Morano? Can I talk to you for a second?" I looked back to see Miss Miller.
"Umm, sure." I turned back to Annarina. "Wait for me outside." She nodded.
I walked over to Miss Miller's desk. "Yes? Is something wrong?"
She shook her head. "No, nothing's wrong. I just wanted to ask you a favor."
I nodded my head, urging her to continue.
A favor?
She cleared her throat. "I was wondering if you would be free to tutor Arie Chulan. I've looked through his records and noticed that his math skills aren't very high. It would help him if you could give him lessons as you are the best student in my math class." I opened my mouth to answer, but she quickly added. "You will get extra credit, of course."
I closed my mouth and pondered about this. Arie did seem like an okay guy, but I had a feeling he was as arrogant and frustrating as Lysander would be. They were best friends after all. But then again, it would give me extra credit.
