Sadie’s  P.O.V.

It’s been a few weeks. I decided to get a job. Sitting around the house all day is pretty boring especially since school has been back in for a while. Pony and Johnny are at school all day, along with Two-bit...some days.

Dally and Lucy are the only ones who visit during the day when nobody else is around. And it’s more like just Lucy. Dally is working too. He has a family to support now.

But back to me getting a job. I feel like a leach. I just walked in and started living with Darry, Ponyboy and Sodapop. They say it’s no problem and I don’t need to get a job but I want to.

I was walking down the street on my way to The Dingo. I got a job there as a waitress. It was one of the only places that would hire a girl. It was the first place I applied and I got the job. I guess they were in desperate need of a new waitress as soon as I was looking for a job.

Today is my first day. I walked in and went up to the counter. The cashier pointed me in the direction of the back office.

When I entered the little office there was a pudgy man sitting in a desk chair made out of cheap leather situated behind a desk. He looked up from what he was doing. He clearly hadn’t shaved in a few days because he had stubble all along his lower face.

“Huh, you’re pretty” He said with a satisfied look on his face.

“Thank you?” I said not exactly sure how to respond.

“I’m your boss and that’s what you can call me. Boss. Just boss.” He continued as if I hadn’t spoken at.

“Okay” I nodded my head.

He threw a bundle of clothes at me. “That’s your uniform. You can change in the bathroom then start right away. Gloria said she explained everything about the job to you yesterday?”

“Yeah she did” I answered.

“Good. If you need anything- well just don’t need anything.” he said then shooed me away. Well he seems like a pleasant guy I thought to myself as I made my way to the bathroom to change.

When I got in there I looked at what I had to wear, a black skirt that wasn’t as long as I would like and a white v-neck shirt with the name written on it. I looked at myself in the mirror. It wasn’t something I would choose to wear. I would much rather wear blue jeans but I guess the skirt wasn’t too bad.

I walked out and approached Gloria. She smiled when she saw me and gave me my name tag. She also handed me a pad of paper and a pen.

“You can start with table four.” Her voice was soft and kind.

I nodded and went to where she pointed. “Hi I’m Sadie and I’ll be your waitress today” I said with a smile. “What can I get for you?”

They order and I wrote what they said. I gave the order to the cook and got their drinks. I delivered their drinks and told them their food would be ready soon. When it was I brought it to them. The job was pretty simple.

It was simple but repetitive. I did this for a few more tables. Four, Five and Two. Those were the table I covered all day. The costumers changed but the tables didn’t.

“Sadie” Gloria said. I walked over to her.

“Ya?”

“Take that last table over there then you can go home. You did better today than most on their first day.” She told me and I felt very relieved that I hadn’t screwed up my first day on the job.

I went to the table where she pointed. “Hi I’m Sadie and I’ll be-” I paused when I saw who was at the table. It was my ex-boyfriend and LUCY?!?! “What the hell are you doing here?”
