Small chapter. Sorry! But I have you a double update. Enjoy.
---Liz rushed to her front door when she heard the doorbell ring. she yanked it open, expecting and hoping it was luke. A small frown formed on her lips seeing it was just her good friend the detective. "Anything?" she asked, still with some hope.
He shook his head and entered as she took a side step out of the way. " no, but we found your car. Would you like a ride to the impound lot?" Liz stood in silence, staring at her friend before she slowly turned and walked toward the kitchen. " im gonna get my keys.." she said, sounding tired.
"Liz, i meant it when i said i will call you as soon as we find him." the detective said as he followed her into the kitchen. Liz turned to face him, the strong mask she had been using was finally breaking, her eyes started to fill with tears. " i know" she said, trying to hold back the tears.
she grabbed her keys and started to walk toward the door, but her mind was racing in thought so her pace slowed till she was actually stopping. " i made the right choice... didnt i?" she turned to face her friend again, " taking the plea bargain? "
the guy sighed, " Liz.."
" i mean, its just that i know that teenagers are supposed to test their limits. i know that. " she said quickly, "but the thing about luke is that he never did. i mean, its literally like he just skipped a step." The detective stepped closer, placing his hands lightly on liz's shoulders for comfort, "he made a mistake. hes not above making mistakes, none of us are. "
Liz shook her head, " of course not. its just he wouldnt..somebody spiked his drink. somebody gave him that alcohol." she said trying to defend her son but the detective shook his head. "we talked to all his friends. nobody saw them that night. and if they did, they arent talking. is it likely that someone bought the alcohol for them? yeah. but that doesnt change anything.." he said, looking liz in the eyes.
She seemed to shake, the threat of tears was getting stronger. she looked away, frowning. " Luke got a lousy deal... and for the DA to pick this case to make a statement.. " he shook his head, unable to finish what he was saying. he was angry and upset, hating how poor luke was being treated.
"but... there was more then enough evidence at the scene to ensure a conviction." he said sadly. Liz couldnt hold it any longer, she covered her face with her hands and started to cry.
Meanwhile luke and michael were at the local park, swinging on swings. "man, this really opens the floodgates huh?" michael said as he tried to swing higher then luke. " not really.." luke replied in a monotone, slowly swinging and staring off into space.
"then pump harder!" Demanded michael, looking over at the low swinging luke. " Look, mikey, i appreciate the sentimentality*, i really do, but we never used to spend time at the park." luke said. " yep." added michael, only to get a quick " no." from luke.
"tons of misadventures!" Michael said loudly, " such as?" questioned luke. "Okay, when you had your first kiss in the sandbox. or when i fell off the jungle gym and broke my arm in , like, three places. ooh! or when we caught your brother smoking cigarettes underneath the bridge." replied michael with few giggles.
Luke snapped his head to the left to look at michael, " what? that didnt happen!" Michael frowned, " god, i am trying to recapture our youth here. Why are you fighting me on this?" Luke rolled his eyes, a small smile forming. "ok, shouldn't a trip down memory lane involve events that actually happened?"
"excuse me for trying to give us our beaches* moment." sighed michael, slowly getting into a stand on the swing. He stood, still swaying back and forth, his hands gripping the chains tightly as he grinned childishly. He glanced over at luke as luke spoke, " i knew you liked that movie more than you let on!"
