I wake up to the sound of my heart monitor. It's steady beat proves that I'm alive. The walls around me are a light blue color which is odd. I've always known hospital rooms to be white. I lean up in the bed I lay in. A needle is stuck into my arm. It connects me to the IV bag above me. I consider pulling it out but a nurse walk in. She looks startled.
"Oh you're awake! Here let me check you vitals. The doctor will be here soon," she hums a small tune as she does whatever it is she's doing. My throat feels like I've been eating sand.
"Where's.." My voice cuts out before I can finish.
"Let me get you some water. You've been out for two days. Your friend is in the room next to you. Erin Mathews is already awake and has been waiting on you. He gave to police your story but he might be a little delusional. The police need your story before you can go see him," she seems satisfied with her service because she leaves without saying anything more.
After the doctor comes in and talks to me about my arm, which was broken in two places, the police walk in. They say all they want to do is talk so I relent. One of them sits at the edge of my bed while the other leans against the wall.
"How are you feeling today?" The one at the foot of my bed asks.
"I don't feel like small talk so just ask your questions so I can go see Erin," I snap. I attempt to cross my arm but the cast gets in the way.
"Fine we will start easy. Your name is Acelynn Thorn and your only blood relation is your brother Charlie Thorn, correct?" He asks. I can see he is displeased with my lack of manners. I'm not sure that I care. I nod yes to his answer so he can continue.
"Where have you been for the past thirteen months Miss Thorn?" the one by the wall asks.
"I've been held captive by this man who calls himself the Boss. You have to go get my friends. They are still at that place. They are only a couple miles from where we were found. What about Fang, Luna, Scar, and Lyn? Are they here to?" I ask frantically. I forgot about the others during all the excitement of being rescued.
"I'm sorry miss but we don't have anyone here by those names. You guys were the only ones that were brought here. Tell me about this place you were at," he says to attempt to calm me down. It's possibly the worst question you could ask. I sit there and tell them everything from the pit to being forced to fight for my life. The seem shocked by my story.
"We will get people out there right away. If we rescue any of these people you have spoken to us about we will come and get you. Your foster parents have been contacted and are going to head out here right away," the police officer says before they both rush out the door. I'm relived all the people there will get the help they need. Now I just need to go find Erin.
I struggle to stand up. The nurse had told me not to but I don't feel like listening to her. I keep my heart monitor and IV at my side. The gown I wear is uncomfortable and I'm not sure that I like it. I open my door and peak out. There are two nurses talking to each other down the hall. They don't pay attention to me as I creep across the hall to Erin's room. As I open the door I'm confronted with an excited looking Erin.
"Whatcha doing?" I ask trying to sound casual. I walk over to his bedside as he points to the tv.
"They have tv! I haven't watched tv in forever. Did the police take your story? They took mine yesterday and I don't think they believed me. If they have two exactly the same stories they have to believe us". Erin scoots over to allow me to lay down with him. It's a good thing because that short walk was exhausting.
"Yeah I gave them my story. They are sending people out there as we speak. I can't wait until I know everyone in that place is free," I stopped after I saw what he was watching," are you seriously watching a cooking show". I begin laughing at him as he blushes.
