Chapter 5: Just How Many of You Are There?

I didn't mean to whimper again when the big, scary, angry guy growled at me, but it slipped out. As he comes closer, I look around the room frantically trying to figure out how to escape. Needing to flee before I'm hurt is almost an automatic response when someone's anger is directed at me.

Angry guy takes another step toward me and I start to shift off Silas's lap - in preparation to dart around him, before I can flee to the dubious safety of home two things happen at once.

Silas reaches up and carefully cages me in his arms, pulling me back into his huge chest. "Your safe Aggele Mou," he breathes against my ear, as he continues to hold me close.

"North!" Kota snaps at angry guy, while sending a worried glance my way. Seeing that Silas has kept me from fleeing, he turns back to angry guy, who I'm guessing is named North, they stare at each other and seem to have one of those 'read each other's minds' conversations. I wonder if there is a Rosetta Stone program for this kind of language, I think as I watch them, snug in Silas's arms. North looks away and gives a small nod. What the heck did he just agree to? I wonder as he turns back to look at me, this time his gaze no longer angry, more assessing.

"Seriously, little brother?" The blond who came in with North says, with a smirk. I had almost forgotten about him, so overwhelmed was I by his, wait.. did he say little brother? I glance back and forth between the two.

How are these two guys related? I see zero family resemblance. The blonde guy strolls further into the room, and plops himself on a nearby chair. "We need to work on your social skills. If this is how you address all pretty girls, it is no wonder you don't have a girlfriend." The unnamed guy looks at me with playful brown eyes that look at me like he's begging me to join in on his joke.

"Stop calling me little brother, Lucian!" North barks out, as he turns to glare at the playful guy. "You are only one fucking day older than me you jack ass! Besides it's not like any of us can afford to date her, we decided years ago it wasn't worth the risk." North growls, then turns back to me with an apologetic look. "Sorry about frightening you..."

"Sang," Silas finishes for him. "This is Sang. She just moved in to that vacant house a few doors down. Sang, this is North Taylor and Luke Taylor. They are part of our group."

"Ho-how many of you are there?" I whisper to Silas, as I try sliding off his lap. He doesn't loosen his gentle grip on my waist, though, so I am stuck using him as a chair for now.

The blonde guy, Lucian, lets out a small chuckle and addresses me again. "Don't call me Lucian, like grumpy pants over there does, Luke is my name." Luke says, as he bounces his knee up in down in excitement. "And to answer your question, there are nine of us total in our group. It appears you have met Kota, Nathan, Victor, Dr. Green and are really close to Silas." Luke waggles his eyebrows making me blush. "Now you've met me and North. I assume you haven't met Gabe or Mr. Blackbourne. They have been out on a mi- er job this past week. I think they got home sometime this morning, though."

"Luke, take a breath before you pass out," Dr. Green teases him then he turns toward me. "Now Ms. Sang, I need to finish checking out the prettiest patient I have ever seen." Dr. Green gives me a wink as he gently takes my wrist and feels my pulse. "Now is your heart beating wildly because of my nearness or because North decided to scare the bejesus out of you?" He asks while throwing a small glare toward North.

"Patient?" North and Luke ask at the same time, their tone of voice makes me believe they might actually be brothers, although I am confused by the one day older remark North had made. I blush again and as both of them look at me from head to toe, their eyes lingering on the bandages on my hands.
