Chapter 13 - "Proposals and Dirty Secrets..."
Clara's PoV
'What do we do with her sir?' Rory asked.
'Jail her I guess. She tried to kill her and we have all sorts of proof of that' Harold said.
'No' John muttered turning around to look at them.
'King John?' Rory asked confused.
'You take your two kids, and you leave the town. You leave the land'
'What about your secret?'
'There is no secret because if it comes out I will personally track you down and will kill you with my own two hands. Understood?'
'Agreed' melody stuttered.
'Your going with her Harold'
'What?'
'You were my fathers butler not mine. I have Rory. I'll give you some money and you go away together. Be a happy family... But you so much as step foot on this land and violate my treaty and I'll have all four of you banished and hung. Got it?' John asked.
- - -
'How much longer do you intend on sitting there sir?'
'All night if I have too'
'You already have sat there for a week'
'I want to be here when she wakes' John smiles assuringly.
'As you wish sir' Rory smiled.
'Rory'
'Hmm'
'Remind me you need a raise... And a better place to live' John said.
'What?'
'You saved my life and definitely saved Clara's. I do owe you one' John said happily.
'What will happen when people realise she won't give birth at 9 months from your wedding?'
'I don't know she'll definitely marry me yet. But I don't know'
'That's why you let them go with the secret isn't it?' Rory asked.
'Honestly... In a way yes. She's already 14 weeks gone. It's unavoidable. So my reputation of the clean king is ruined. What are you going to do? The other one will probably come out as well but if I'm to run a kingdom might as well be honest'
'As long as your sure' Rory smiled, when Clara began to stir.
'Looks like you might get your answer sooner than expected' Rory chuckled, leaving the room to wait outside.
'Morning' someone chuckled, as I began to open my eyes. I felt weird. Strangely light headed.
'Hi' I whispered weakly.
'Don't move. Your healing well, but don't want your to strain yourself' he said, assisting my to sit up, making me wince remembering everything that happened.
My stomach felt on fire, and I noted the sling that my arm was in, probably due to the bullet in my shoulder.
'How you feeling?' He asked.
'Like I was shot in the stomach' I muttered, as he stood up and sat at the edge of the bed.
'So Clara Oswald. Who are you?' He asked with a raised eyebrow. 'You can't lie now' he said.
I sighed and looked up at him. 'I'm Clara Oswald. I am the daughter of a farmer. I don't have my parents anymore. I don't have glamorous dresses. I've spent the last 6 months sleeping on a wooden floor in soot by the fire. And I'm sorry but for your own good I can't marry you. I know I said yes but I was drowsy and not thinking' I said as his face dropped.
'Why?'
'I can't let you ruin your reputation for me. She's got information, no matter if she's here on jail. She knows we slept together John, and I can't let her leak that' I said noting just how comfy this bed was.
It didn't really dawn on me that I was in a bed in the palace and that by my feet curled up was lucky. 'How did he get here?'
'I sent Rory to collect a few bits from your basement, I thought you might like some home comfort, but when he came back with a dog and a few ripped outfits, I fed him - he looked starved - and then fixed up a few clothes for you. There was a box of mementoes which are still in tact' he said motioning to the box.
'I can't live here John, I can't live with you. I won't let you ruin your life for me' I whispered, allowing a few tears to leak from my eyes.
'Thing is Clara, that secret really doesn't matter anymore. The whole kingdom will know in a few short months anyway. So you can't say no for that reason'
'What?'
'Listen. That night we spent in the shed, was one of the most amazing nights I've had ever. I've never felt more alive than when I'm with you. And it turns out my sperm quite liked the night with you too' he chuckled making my eyes widen.
'You mean?'
'Yeah. As soon as they took you in for surgery they noticed it, made it far more complicated but it didn't harm the baby at all. It's still going strong' he said.
'Oh my god' I said clutching my head.
'Even if we got married tomorrow it wouldn't work. Your already 14 weeks gone' he said leaning closer. 'Now... Instead of hiding your feelings or protecting mine. Seeing as your going to be the mother of my child. Will you marry me?' He asked holding up the engagement ring again.
I suddenly let the facade drop. I knew there wasn't much hiding it for any longer. I love him, want him and need him.
'Yes' I whispered. 'Of course I will' I chuckled as he pushed the ring on my finger and leant down to kiss me sweetly.
