The ride back to the academy was an eerie silence. Mason was still pissed off, and while Kade thought it was just about the fire incident, I knew it had to be more. I wasn't sure exactly why he was mad but I knew that he had to be mad about the whole hallway incident.
When we got back to the academy, Kade muttered out a "bye" before heading off to his vehicle. We sat in silence for a moment before I just got sick and tired of it. "Mason, look-"
He didn't even let me finish the sentence before he was getting out of the truck. I quickly got out of the truck and hurried after him. "Mason you're gonna have to talk to me eventually whether or not you want to."
He abruptly stopped and turned around. "About what exactly, Elizabel? The fire incident or the part where I let my dick think for me?"
"Well since you brought it up, I guess we can talk about the whole dick incident." I offered oh-so-helpfully.
He threw his hands up. "What's there to talk about? I'm a guy. Sorry to break it to you honey but just because you get my boy hard doesn't mean I have feelings for you."
He didn't wait for my response, not that I had one. He turned and started walking again. He took a couple of steps before calling over his shoulder, "It's two, consider yourself dismissed."Don't cry. Don't cry. I repeated over and over in my head on my way back to my room. I was only halfway there when I got a call from Lucas.
"Hello?"
"Hello gorgeous. You got any plans right now?""No, but I can't do anything," I said remembering my punishment.
"Why?" He asked, obvious confusion in his voice.
I sighed. "Look Lucas, I really don't want to talk about this right now. I'll talk to you tomorrow."When I got back to my room, I had never been more thankful that Nat or Mak weren't here. The only person I wanted to talk to was Bailey and I hoped to God on high that he wasn't working.
I breathe a sigh of relief when he answered on the third ring. "Hey, Liz. How's boarding school?"
I turned on the water to my bathtub. It was time I put this luxurious thing to good use. "Well," I wasn't sure where to start.
"Just spill it honey, before I die of old age."
As I began updating him on the whole Mason fiasco, I undressed and slipped into my roomy tub. I hadn't talked to Bailey in a couple of days and I really missed him.
Going to a boarding school was hard enough, much less going without your best friend.
"Liz, I know you're blond but please tell me that even you can see it."
I burrowed my brow in confusion. "See what?"
"The guy is freaking in love with you!"
Had Bailey lost his mind? For once, he was literally making no sense whatsoever. "No, he's not."
"Well maybe not love but he likes you."
Did he not hear anything I just told him? Mason had flat out told me he did not like me like that. Embarrassing enough, it happened on more than one occasion. "No trust me he doesn't. Bailey, he told me flat out that he didn't like me."
"Oh my Lord." I could just see Bailey shaking his head as he said this. "He lied to you."
"But that doesn't make any sense. Why would he lie to me if he supposedly likes me so much?"
"I don't know. Maybe he realizes that if people knew he liked you how much it would affect him. It'd affect his job, what people think of him, and not to mention its kinda illegal. Not that you've ever had a problem doing something illegal but it sounds like he would."
I rolled my eyes. "I just really don't think it's like that."
"Whatever Liz."I sighed and Bailey must have understood that I was through talking about it. "Did you ever tell your mom about you knowing that your real dad and her met at your boarding school?"
"No, but I wished your mom would have told me more about him. She said she just told me because she thought it would help narrow down my choices of which academy to go too."
"Well has your mom told you anything else about him?"
"Nope, not a single word. I've asked her and asked her, but she hasn't said anything about him. And she probably would have never told me, but I heard her and dad arguing about it before they divorced. She hasn't even shown me a picture of him, and I know she has one."
"Doesn't that big bad expensive school you're going to keep old yearbooks in the library? You could always look a picture up of him."
"Bailey, you're a genius!" I quickly got out of the tub and started drying off. "I'll talk to you later."
I changed into a pair of short overalls and a t-shirt. I yanked on my converse and threw my hair up into a messy high ponytail. I wasn't allowed to go off socializing but I didn't think the library counted.
I called Lucas on my way. "Hello gorgeous. You got any plans right now?" I asked quoting him.
"No, but I have a feeling that I'm about to."
I smiled. "Meet me in the library in five."I made it to the library before Lucas, so I went to the librarian and reserved a room. The librarian was handing me the key when Lucas showed up. When she eyed us suspiciously, I figured I could expect a surprise visit from her making sure me and Lucas weren't using the room for a kinky quickie.
The library was huge, so it took us a moment to get back to where the yearbooks were. "So are you gonna tell me what we're here for?"
I scanned the bookshelves. "Well long story short, I found out my dad was just my step-dad and now I'm trying to get more information on my real dad."
"Why don't you ask your mom?" Lucas suggested.
"Yeah, already tried that." I pulled a yearbook out and handed it to Lucas. "And I don't even know his name so this should be fun." I handed him another yearbook.
"No offense, Bella, but how are you planning on finding him if you don't even know his name?"
I handed him another yearbook. "Well I'm going to get all the yearbooks that my mom is in and then I'm just going to hope that there is a picture of my mom in here with him."
I handed him the last yearbook and led the way to the room. After unlocking it, I turned on the lights and we sat down at the table. We both took a book and began looking. While I couldn't look at just the individual yearbook pictures and know it's him, I could always look at the random pictures throughout it and hope that there's one of my parents.
Hours later, we had found pictures of my mom with a guy, but the problem is that we found like eight pictures and each guy is different. "What is the plan now?"
I sighed, locking the room back up. "I guess we can just try looking each guy up and seeing where that gets us."
He nodded. "I used to work part time with this private investigator. He might be able to help.""Thanks for coming down here with me by the way. I really appreciate it."
Lucas started to say something but stopped when he heard shouts coming from around the corner. I turned the corner and I had a second to take in the scene before everything went black.
