The seas were rough. Water crashed on the ship without remorse. His eyes seemed out of focus. Almost as if he was seeing an illusion. Memories replayed in his mind.

"Daddy! Daddy! I'm scared.."

A little girl burrowed herself in her fathers reassuring arms. She simply would not look behind her or beyond her father. She trembled under his embrace, scared. The noise agitated her. The skies seemed to be furious that day.  He remembered that day like if it was yesterday. He had never seen thunder roar louder or lightning strike brighter. He rested his palm on her fragile head and softly patted it. He did his best to stop her crying and reassure her she would be ok.

"Don't you worry nightlight. I've got you. I'm right here. I'll protect you."

The little girl looked at her father sniffling at the mere noise of thunder. He cleaned her crocodile tears and kissed her forehead. They were going to be ok. He would be there to protect her.

"I love you daddy."

Her cheeks instantly brightened as a smile spread across her face. That memory would forever be etched into his mind. A bright smile like no other. His happiness and triumph.

"I love you too." He mumbled.

As he reached out towards the horizon, he realized she was not there and he wasn't the man he used to be. He sighed as his fist pounded fiercely onto the the side of the prow. His men looked at him in confusion. Drago kept watching over the rough seas intent on making Hiccup suffer. He was confused at why he would be thinking about such memories at a time like this. Such an important and vital time it was for him to be having..doubts? Drago didn't think they were doubts but just unwanted memories stealing his undivided attention and focus.

Why were these memories coming back now? She would be 21 today. The same little girl he reached out to.. would be a grown woman today. No doubt the best warrior he had ever trained. Drago could not get the image out of his head. The time his daughter would smile at him instead of be angry at him. It was at times like this that a voice would say, "Looks like the ocean is watching you."

Her face. Her grin. For a brief moment, it was like his wife's warmth came over him. It's like he could feel her near. The woman suddenly appeared beside him and held his hand and smiled. Her smile was one that made Drago feel weak.. He closed his eyes and then she was gone. And the warmth he had felt for a brief second dissipated. Drago was now older man full of mistakes. He was definitely not the man his wife or daughter had loved so much and cherished. That's right.. it was all coming back now.

"You monster!?"

Those words replayed in his mind. He growled as he ripped a part of the starboard from his ship. His crew scattered amongst themselves, not wanting to face his wrath. The cold reality had set in. What once was a beautiful happy family was broken into a million little pieces. And that was a burden that Drago, could not bear without lashing his anger out to the world. He was in pain and angry. And he wanted all the world to know it, respect it, and submit to it.
