Only Ever You (Jaythan)

Chapter 10

I knew we had to tell the boys. But how would that conversation begin? Awkward situations were not my strong suit.

Nareesha offered to help, but I declined. I wanted to build up the strength and self confidence myself.

We were all sitting and watching Avatar again. I realised that it was the perfect time. They were all bored with the movie anyway (except for Jay).

I paused it.

"What did you do that for?" Jay whined. "Jake was about to return to Pandora!"

"Jay, we need to tell them," I said sternly. His face grew serious as he nodded.

"What?" Max asked. "What do you need to tell us?"

I twiddled my thumbs nervously. "Well, you see...I'm gay." Silence. "So is Jay." More silence. "And...well, you can see where I'm going with this."

Still silence.

"So...you two are...together?" Siva asked slowly. Nareesha squeezed his hand.

"Do you have any idea what this would do to the band?" Tom said quietly but forcefully.

"We know," Jay replied.

"Then why are you doing it?"

"Because we love each other. Is that a bad reason?" I retaliated.

Max stood. "I need to think about this."

"Me too," Tom agreed. The walked out of the room.

Siva shrugged. "I don't know, mate, but I support you. It takes a lot of guts to stand up for yourselves."

"Thanks," Jay said, smiling. I started up the film again.

I felt Jay's arm snake behind me and around my waist. I leaned into him and rested my head on his shoulder.

No one complained.

Tom and Max were the only problem for now. I knew Kelsey would support us; she's shipped us since forever. She could convince Tom. But Max? If he didn't like something, it was hard to get him to.

I tried not to worry. I had Jay. That was all that mattered.
