A Web of Spider Bites

Chapter 15

"Mum?" Bell gasps. She couldn't believe she was here, Bell knew her Mum hated her for breaking the family apart and coursing her Mum to become an alcohol. "What.... What are you doing here?" Bell whispers.

Bells Mum didn't reply she just walked down the screaming stairs. The two females never broke eye contact.

Suddenly a sound of the front door closing became heard by Bell. "Mum, hide! Now!" Bell whisper shouted. Bells Mum moved round the corner into the dark so she couldn't be seen. She made it just in time.

Ben opened the door as he walked through the door at speed, almost as if he thought she wouldn't be there.

"Bell" Ben whispers surprised.

Bell looked up with panic trying not to look at the corner where her Mother hid. Ben ran down the screaming stairs as her looked over at the young girl chained to his walls, Bell-however-looked down to the ground.

"I have some news" Ben stated, trying to sound powerful but he came across as shaken.

Bell looked up at him giving him permission to go on.

"I'm so sorry..... Well I think that's the right thing to say" Ben says as he handed the newspaper over.

Bell cast her sad eyes over the dull inky paper, she read the title over and over again, trying to get everything to sink in.

Underneath there was a past photo of Bells Mum.

This couldn't be right, it can't be. Bell just saw her Mum, she was just here. Of course she would never tell Ben, Bells Mum might help her out so she needs to keep it a secret. Bell didn't move or respond, she thinks-no, she knows her Mum is still alive. Bell looks straight ahead.

Ben kneels down in front of her and tries to make eye contact.

"I'm sorry Bell, I know you had good times together and deep down I know you still care about her." Ben signs as he runs his hands through his hair. "I'll urm.... I'll give you some time by yourself." Ben says as he gets up and slowly leaves the room.

All sort of thought are going through Bens head as he left Bell. Why didn't Bell react? There was nothing in her eyes. He can't help but feel spry for Bell; he stole her away from her Mum in her last days, in the time she was trapped here she could have helped her Mum: given her a reason to live. He'd treated Bell so badly even though she has gone through so much and now she's gone through this. Hopefully she won't be too upset but she's already broken and getting further away from getting back to "normal".

Bell doesn't have many thoughts running through her small head because she knows her Mum is still alive. "Mum, you can come out now."

No answer.

"Mum?" Bell waited. Where had she gone? "Mum he's gone, it's safe for a while." Still no answer.

Bell starts to panic as she gets confused. Was she imaging it? She can't have been, her Mum was definitely there.

"Mum!" Bell screamed and cried. She buried her head in her knees.

She started to rock herself to try calm her but she then felt a presents holding her. Looking up with hopeful eyes she picture her Mum, however it was Ben. Still there was no disappointment felt from Bell.

Bell sobbed into Ben's shoulder and he held her; what was going on?
