Chap 4

So I did what every cool teenage girl would do in this situation.

Laugh.

I mean, you're stuck in somewhere far away from home and its in the frigging past?

Totally blasé about it.

Obviously, I was not cool cause I also did what every other girl would do.

Scream.

I mean, YOU'RE IN A FREAKING FARM IN KANSAS?

IN THE 1800S?

"Ha..Ha..He..AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

Yup. That's me.

The woman screamed at my outburst.

Girl bonding time. Great.

"Oh for Pete's sake! John, you make Mother keep her silence while I shut her."

Someone covered my mouth hastily. The sandy haired boy appeared out of nowhere and covered the woman's mouth with his hands. He grinned at me while my eyes just widened.

"Told you she got some fire in her, Jack."

"She can swear! Obviously she has some spirit!" the redhead exclaimed indignantly.

"Oh shut it, George. And let the poor lass go, Jack." Mark sauntered in and hit George's head. George swiped Mark on his back and Mark let out a shocked shriek.

"Did you just shriek like a girl? Cause I heard you!" George snickered.

"Why you little--" Mark started.

"Stop it. Get out there and work while Mother and I deal with her." Jack, the hottie, ordered. The other three left, with George and Mark glaring at each other and John grinning and saluting his mother and Jack.

His mother smiled fondly at him and ruffled his hair.

Dad. I choked on tears as I thought of my home. I was homesick. I missed my aunts and my dad and my half eaten tub of chocolate cookie dough Ben 'N' Jerry's. I missed my teddy bear and my cup.

I missed home.

"Shi...uh...She's crying! And I swear its not me!" Jack let go of me as if I was fire and I wiped my tears away. The woman tsked and came to envelope me into a hug.

"Dear, it's okay. You're homesick aren't you?" she stroked my hair. She reminded me so much of Aunt Evelyn. I bit my lip to stop the tears.

Jack stood awkwardly in the room, shoving his hands into his pants pockets.

"Jack! Do something!" the woman continued to stroke my hair while chiding Jack. He spluttered and watched me.

"I'll bring her to the salon." he finally sighed out.

My shoes scuffed the dirt road and some pebbles moved out of my path. I sneaked a glance to Jack. He was walking straight, his straw hat on his head and his hands shoved into his pockets again. He looked up from his shoes and noticed me. I looked away.

"So...um..what's your name?" he coughed out and I looked at the dirt rising from the wind.

"Mich." I answered.

"I'm Jack." I rolled my eyes.

"Hello Captain Obvious, your brothers were screaming your name." he blushed. Omg. That's so cute. And then he frowned and looked at me.
