" Ludwig? Where are you? " Gilbert asked as he called out to his brother. Soon enough, he saw a figure sitting on the couch in the living room.
" Ah, there you are- " Gilbert paused when he saw that the person sitting on his couch wasn't Ludwig at all. In fact, Gilbert had no idea how he had mistaken the brown haired, amber eyed boy with a strange curl on his head to be his own brother.
" Ve~ You must be Gilbert, right? " The stranger asked, smile on his face.
" Who are you? How do you know my name? " Gilbert questioned, suddenly wary of this stranger now that he knew his name. He spoke in a stern and sharp voice, but not stern enough to scare the child sitting on his couch.
The child on the couch flinched, startled by Gilbert's sudden change in tone.
" I'm Feliciano Vargas! I'm Ludwig's friend from school. "
" You're his friend? " Gilbert raised an eyebrow. Strange, Ludwig had never mentioned him before.
However, before Feliciano even had the chance to reply, someone made an appearance from the bathroom.
" Feli-san? "
Gilbert screamed, falling onto his butt. The sudden appearance startled Feli as well.
" Ve~ Kiku? "
Gilbert narrowed his eyes.
Okay, this was getting too much. What was this Japanese kid doing in his house? He deserved an explanation from Ludwig, like, right now.
The so-called Kiku finally took notice of Gilbert and was shocked to see the apparent stranger in the house, but relaxed once he assumed it was Gilbert, Ludwig's older brother.
" You're Gilbert, right? " He asked, his eyes taking in the unusual appearance of Gilbert.
" Right, and who are you? " Gilbert asked back, studying the kid's features.
" Ah, how rude of me, I forgot to introduce myself first. My name is Kiku Honda, it's a pleasure to meet you. " Kiku extended a hand out for a handshake, and Gilbert took it, grinning as he did so.
" Okay, it's settled then! " Gilbert clapped his hands together.
" You guys are Ludwig's friends right? Where's he? "
" Ludwig-san is in his room getting materials for our project. "
" Project? " Gilbert raised a brow in curiosity.
" Bruder? "
Gilbert turned around, to be greeted by his younger brother, Ludwig." Mum, for the fifth time, you cannot be serious! " Matthew protested in his soft voice.
" I told you I want to stay here. I'm happy studying here, I even have a friend now! I'm doing well and you are as well, so why? Why do we have to leave? "
Matthew's mother sighed and glared slightly at her son.
" Matthew, I told you already. Your father's found a new, stable job in Florida! ( Huehue ;) ) We're going there and we're staying. Florida's a great place. When you go there, you'll continue to do well in your studies, and you'll make plenty of friends there. You might as well forget about this friend you have. After all, he or she will be replaced by your new ones, right? Don't worry about it. So for the last time, grab your bags and let's get going. " His mother huffed, taking her bags and walking out of the house, leaving Matthew to grab his belongings before they could go off.
Matthew sighed in frustration.
Great.
Just. Great.
Just when he was about to gain a friendship, his mother decided to rip it away from him. Matthew didn't know who to be more mad at. Mother, who didn't understand anything, or Father, who only cared about working. He was lonely, but no one seemed to understand. Sure, he had Alfred, his brother, but Alfred moved to America and stayed there. Now he couldn't even depend on Mother and Father.
" Matthew! Are you coming or not! " Mother's shout snapped Matthew out of his thoughts.
" I'm coming! " Matthew yelled ( at least tried to ).
" Don't you yell at me! " Mother screeched.
' What a psycho, ' Matthew thought as he climbed into the car, throwing his bags behind.
As Mother drove to the airport, Matthew stared out of the window, indulging in his own thoughts. He couldn't help but wallow in self-pity.
Friends... That word was foreign to the Canadian teenager. He never got to experience having friends. And just when that time was about to come, Mother ripped it away from him.
Alfred... Did he even think about Matthew, now that he was in the US, living happily with his friends?Flashback
" Mattie, come and play baseball with me! " What looked to be the younger version of Alfred tugged Matthew along with him.
" Okay, I'm coming. " Matthew said.
" Give me your best shot. I'll catch any ball you throw- " Poor Matthew didn't have a chance to complete his sentence as the baseball flew into his face, knocking his glasses off.
" Um... Let's play where nobody get's killed, okay? " Matthew said as he struggled to get up.
" Sure thing! You want me to throw it like Francis? "
" Yeah... That works- " Wham, another shot, this time to his stomach.
" Hehe, loser. "
" Oww! My vital regions... "Flashback End
Oh, that memory made Matthew so mad, he wanted to rip his brother to pieces. But there were also times when Alfred could be sweet.
Flashback
" Oww! My vital regions... "
Alfred's eyes widened when he saw his brother crumble to the ground in agony.
" Yo dude, are you okay?! " Alfred ran over after realizing he had hurt Matthew more than he had intended to. In fact, he didn't even intend to hurt Mattie at all. He just wanted to have some fun, that was all.
Fortunately, Matthew was able to get up after awhile.
" Okay, I promise to throw softer. " Alfred flashed his brother a grin, trying his hardest not to piss Mattie off. Matthew sighed, knowing that there was no staying mad at his brother.
Unfortunately, this time, Alfred hit the window behind Matthew.< CRACK >
" Uh oh. " Both brothers paled, fearing their parent's temper.
" Alright, who broke this window?! " True enough, their parents came storming out like angry bulls.
" Matthew, it was you, wasn't it? It must be you, knowing how clumsy you are. " His father growled at poor Matthew. ( who was currently trying his hardest not to piss his pants in fear )
Actually, Alfred was much more clumsier than Matthew was, but their parents were too blind to notice.
" Dad- I-I... " Matthew stuttered and backed away.
" Dad, stop! It wasn't him. It was me. " Alfred pulled Matthew back as he yelled at his father.
" Why do you always blame Matthew? It's not his fault! " Alfred yelled once again, this time towards both Father and Mother.
Matthew blinked in surprise. Alfred... Why had he stuck up for him? He took the punishment for Matthew, even when he could escape from their parent's wrath. However, Matthew's surprise disappeared when his parents growled.
" What did you just say, Alfred? " Father growled, taking a cane in his hands.
" You heard me! " Alfred wasn't afraid of the cane, not this time.
Matthew gasped when the cane was brought down on Alfred's arms, leaving a red line behind. Alfred winced and flinched, trying his hardest not to look weak.
" Alfred I- " To the end, Matthew was in tears as he watched his brother on the floor, red marks all over his arms and hands. When that time came, Father and Mother were already gone. They were back in the house, leaving their children outside the yard.
" It's fine Mattie, I'm fine. Please stop crying. " His brother grinned reassuringly, trying to get his brother to stop crying.
" Alfred, why didn't you let me take the punishment? " Matthew asked and Alfred smiled.
" Because heroes don't do that. Especially not to their brothers. "Flashback End
" Matthew, we're here. " Mother shook him, startling Matthew out of his thoughts. Again.
He could never think in peace, could he?
" Okay. " Nodded Matthew as he helped to carry the bags.A/N
So, here's Chapter 2! I hope you like it!
Poor Mattie, he's such a sad teen... What do you think of his parents? What about Alfred, when he stood up for Matthew? Who are Alfred's friends? They may or may not appear in this story... I also decided to change the age gap between Gilbert and Ludwig, seeing that it might fit more into the storyline. -w-
P.S. Feel free to give me advice on my writing. Sorry if there are any mistakes in the story, though!
