8 years passed.
8. Freaking. Years.
It was a year after Gilbert graduated from college. Just as he had thought so, everyone parted ways. Some became lawyers, politicians, and all that watchamacallit professional stuff, while some were still struggling to look for jobs. Not that Gilbert cared about them anyway, since they were all just bunches of dickheads.
Instead, he focused on making a living to support both Ludwig and him. Ludwig was in junior college, and him being much smarter than his older brother, ( shame on you Gil ) was obviously doing well in his studies.
Gilbert however, was able to find a job. A man by the name of Ivan Braginsky took him into his company, and now he was doing office work. Gilbert's life began to look up then. He met friends ( his colleagues ), had good pay and he liked his job, even if his boss was a little scary sometimes.
Let's have a glimpse of his life right now...Gilbert huffed, handling the documents that were lying on his desk. His job wasn't exactly hard, but he worked full time, from 9 in the morning to 9 in the night.
As he sat in front of his desk, he wondered why Ivan took him into the company in the first place. Did he see some kind of potential in him? What potential was there in him, anyway? He saw nothing. The more he thought about it, the more he got curious and in a daze.< KNOCK >
" Come in! " Gilbert half-said, half-groaned. For years and years, why did he always get interrupted while thinking about something? It was getting annoying.
As Gilbert watched the door open, and saw that it was Raivis. ( Latvia )
" Hello Gilbert. Boss Ivan asked me to bring these to you. " Raivis said and dropped the stack of papers on his desk.
One look at the mountain of papers and the albino felt his headache come on again. He was only 24, and he was already getting so much work.
" Oh, hey Raivis. How close are you to Boss Ivan anyways? "
Raivis cocked his head to the side in confusion, wondering why Gilbert would ask that out of nowhere.
" Um, I'm part of Boss Ivan's Baltic Squad, so I guess I should be... Pretty close. Why? "
" Just curious... " Gilbert mumbled, closing the door behind him.
" Thanks, Raivis. "
Just when he was about to get back to his work, the door slammed open again.
" Wait! It's lunch time, aren't you coming? "
Gilbert sighed.
" Are you kidding? With this much work, I have to stay behind or I'll never complete this by today. "
" Okay Gil. Good luck. " Raivis nodded, closing the door.
Gilbert was hoping that Raivis would be able to give him answers to his questions on Boss Ivan, but he guessed that Raivis wasn't one of those people close enough to know. Even if he was in the Baltic Squad.
Just as he thought he could go back to work, he heard another knock on the door.
He groaned, gripping at his silvery hair.
However, he stopped groaning in frustration when he noticed that the person entering the room was Natalya.
" H-Hello, Natalya. "
Instead of getting at least even a nod from the woman, he got a cold glare.
" W-What's wrong, Natalya? Did the awesome me upset you in anyway? " He stuttered, face turning paler and paler.
" Yes. " Came her answer.
" What? Why? What's the problem? "
" You're the problem. " She turned her heel on him, hissing like a snake.
" Big brother Ivan always pays more attention to you than he does to me. Why does he always depend on you for paperwork? Why won't he depend on me more than you? Am I not important? " She ranted to no one in particular.
" Maybe he just doesn't want you to be too stressed. " Gilbert answered, still in shock by her previous statement.
" Shut up. " Natalya hissed yet again, taking out her knife.
" What are you doing?! Are you trying to kill me? "
She ignored him completely.
" Maybe you need to disappear. It's about time. I'm tired of you. And once you disappear, big brother Ivan will finally notice me and will depend on me for all of his paperwork! " She cackled, running her fingers on the steely surface of the knife.
" You're insane! " Gilbert yelled.
" No way would I let you do that! "
" Who says that I can't? " Belarus flashed a Cheshire Cat grin.
" W-What? " He stuttered.
" Who says I can't? " She repeated, throwing the mountain of paperwork that was previously on his desk, onto the floor.
" What are you doing! " Gilbert shouted.
" There are two ways to do this, Gilbert. The easy way, you let me fire you. I'm still the vice-head of this company, after all. Or the hard way, where you let me kill you with this knife right here. "
Gilbert gritted his teeth in anger, he couldn't believe this crazy wench.
After awhile, he sighed.
" Fine, easy way. "
" Good! " She smiled while writing a form which was probably for firing him.
Well, he definitely couldn't risk being killed. He knew how dangerous Natalya was, even Boss Ivan was afraid of her. While she was trained to throw knifes, he wasn't even trained to fight.
Therefore, he definitely couldn't win. And besides, he probably could find another job somewhere else.
" Here, show this to Boss Ivan after lunch break and get out. You're lucky I'm giving you lunch break to say your goodbyes. " Natalya huffed and walked away, evil smirk on her face.
Gilbert sighed. What were the Baltic Squad going to say about this? What about Alfred and Arthur? What about Poland, his rival? And most importantly, Francis and Antonio, his best friends?
Looking distraught, Gilbert dragged his feet to the canteen. To his surprise, everyone was waiting for him in the canteen.
" Why are you all staring at me like that? " Gilbert said, raising a brow.
After a moment of absolute silence, everyone shouted,
" HAPPY BIRTHDAY! "
Gilbert gawked, stunned.
Above him, there was a banner that said, " happy birthday Gilbert " and there was a gigantic cake on the middle of the table.
If he wasn't getting fired, Gilbert would've been elated by now.
Confetti flying all over the place, everyone stared at Gilbert, waiting for his reaction. However, much to their shock, Gilbert looked all kinds of dismayed, shocked and guilty.
How could he forget? Today was January 18, his birthday...
... And also the day he gets fired.
" Guys... "
" Gilbert? "
"... I have something to tell you. I'm... "
He showed the paper to everyone.
"... Fired. By Natalya. "
Everyone gasped in shock, running over to take a closer look.
" What! mon ami! How could she do this to you! And on your birthday, mon dieu! " Francis and Antonio looked furious for the first time in forever.
" Sì! How could she do this! This is too much! "
" I know, but I have no choice. Apparently, she wants me to leave because she thinks Boss Ivan depends too much on me. " Sighed Gilbert.
" Boss Ivan, shouldn't you like, do something about this already? " Surprisingly, it was Feliks who yelled this time.
Gilbert stared at Feliks, surprised and confused as to why his former rival would still want him in the company.
" I'm sorry everyone, but I can't go against my sister's wishes. " Ivan sighed and shook his head in denial.
" I'm sorry Gilbert, but I'm afraid I'll have to let you go. "
Gilbert sighed in response.
" It's okay, Boss Ivan. Thanks for having me over. "
" You're welcome, Gilbert. "
Gilbert flashed everyone a sad smile, before heading off." Everything's finally going according to plan... " Cackled Natalya.
